Loan Watch 2020-2021

It’s almost as if this season has shown that relying on a 18/19 year old backup alone is harmful for the club and him 🤷

And he is clearly now getting better and better. I get it. You don’t rate him.
I’ve literally never said that. If you can be arsed look back at what I did say - to paraphrase I said I think he will be a good player, but starting him against fully grown men was doing him more harm than good, and also offered nothing for the team

I usually CBA to challenge words being put in my mouth, but this can do one.

Exactly, is Rafa better value for wolves on the bench or the money (and future money) we'd get by selling him.
Bench. This season has shown the problem with the current forward line without Jota able to be a passable backup to Raul. Either sign a new Jota or keep Rafa, or even both.

Raul plays with Fabio & Rafa on the bench.

If Raul doesn't get injured then there aren't many minutes for Fabio & Rafa to share.
That's assuming Raul comes back firing all cylinders after his injury, no guarantee of that, nobody knows till he plays.

Might do no harm to keep him around the place for the first half of next season just incase

I'd keep him. No reason we can't have two strikers on the bench? He's scoring for fun in La Liga and offers us something different.

But I wouldn't be surprised if we used him in a deal to sign another player.

He does seem to have a touch of the cart horse about him.

I'd still sell him, although I think he only has a year left we are likely to get an amount back for him nobody would have envisioned a few months ago. He didn't settle last time, so I'd play the percentages and get rid.

The Jonny situation should be a lesson in complacency re Raul though. What if he picked up another injury early next season, are we going to leave ourselves open to over exposing Fabio again? My preference would be a.forward who can play across the line, someone in the Watkins mould, but if the choice was another number 9 or nobody, then I'd go for the former.

I don't buy the blocking Fabio's development line if that is to the detriment to the whole team and playing too much could be as bad for him as not playing at all.

If we go 3-5-2 then keeping Rafa and having a 3 of Fabio, Rafa and Raul makes sense.

Fabio can’t play up top on his own so playing him centrally in a 3-4-3 wouldn’t work but Rafa is far more suited to that role and could be Raul’s natural successor.

I don't want to judge him on having only seen highlights, but my worry would be that if Jiminez needs time to readjust, Silva and Mir aren't pacy types you can bring on to support another forward. I'd want the 3rd attacking option to be relative to what Traotre 'can' offer when up top, but a more consistent version that is better at the all over forward play.

Patson Daka for me, though I think we’ve missed the boat there. We need a player who can play any position across the 3 - Neto can’t do it, Adama should be able to do it but it never seems to work.

It is a difficult one, especially given he's out of contract next summer. If he stays, sits on the bench and leaves for nowt next summer that's the worst of all worlds for everyone.

Hopefully we either sign the unicorn that can play all across the front or we keep Rafa and extend his contract.

If we go back to 352 after pissing about for 18 months I'll be a touch annoyed for reasons I'm not going to detail the thread with again
