We still have no idea if Raul will be able to cope with a few games yet, never mind a full season of football. His situation is precarious just by the nature of his injury. The club may decide to protect him by reducing his minutes even if he does seem to be coping ok. Too many variables to know for certain what will happen.

We either need to buy another wide forward who can play up front, or we should keep Mir and tell him he'll get his chance.

I'd be happy for him to come back and be back up along with Fabio. Would be useful to have 2 different style strikers available depending on what was reguired at the time and of course useful in the event Raul or Silva get injured.

Rafa Mir is not the answer. Sell him while his stock is high.

He may have scored a few goals but he’s still a limited player. I don’t think he has the all round play that we require.

We could keep him and lose out on a hefty fee and not use him as we realise he’s probably no better than WJ, even if their skill sets are slightly different.

Fabio has already come on leaps and bounds, so it’s not the scenario it was in September were he looked out of his depth.

Ideal option - Sign another Jota.
Next best option - short term loan for #9
Third best option - Raul and Fabio
Worst option - Keep Rafa

I also think he will be pretty ineffective too. So £10m and nothing is better than, no money and a player you don’t/won’t use

If we are thinking of bringing him back to be an option from the bench I think I would prefer us to take the money (who thought we could make a profit on him after his final UK loan spell) and put some faith in Corbs to be behind Raul and Fabs.

Not that convinced about Mir. Probably leaning in the 'get rid while he's fairly hot' camp.

We need something decent in the striking department though, plenty of good suggestions on here but it needs prioritising by Nuno and the kind of player probably depends on how he sees us predominately playing next season.

We've watched with horror just how much missing Raul has contributed to a minor collapse, we can't use that as an excuse then not mitigate against it happening again just cos Fabio will be a year older

On the subject of on loan strikers, looks like Bonatini and Co are continuing their march towards the title. Won 2-0 yesterday so now 4 points clear with 8nto play.

I'd give him preseason to prove it, he looks a bit of a blunt instrument in the highlights this season but he's proving to be effective with it. I certainly don't see how he can be any worse than a non-existent player or a wad of cash. Might not make a like for like replacement for Jimemez but there might be enough to work with.

Think it's a bit premature to just be writing him off completely and taking whatever money someone might offer for him. Look how Jose has turned out with a half decent pedigree behind him, why give yourself that job to do again if you already own someone as able and willing to do that job?

I don’t think he can do the job. That’s my opinion, you think he may be able to, that’s fine. I think he will be worse than Fabio, so I don’t see the point in having a 3rd striker and declining a sizeable amount of money in the process. As I said, I think the likelihood is we either loan someone short term or sign a Jota type anyway.

Let’s say Ruddy signed a new deal and was 3rd choice behind Rui and Sondegaard next year. Would I turn down a sizeable amount of money for a guy just in case Rui and the backup got injured for an extended period? No I wouldn’t, and that’s in the most specialised position on the pitch. I’d rather have the money

£10m is a big loan fee for someone we don't know can cut it.

I’m a bit worried we may be a bit stuck anyway. Haven’t Huesca got an option to buy? If they have and we get no say in the matter then surely the fee we agreed pre loan is going to be something minimal?

They could do an Afobe and buy him for the agreed price and then flip him for more.
