Loan Watch 2019-2020

We don't have much cup stuff to play. He wouldn't have played in the Europa League and that leaves you with the Third Round of the League Cup (where we have played Man City and Leicester in the last two years). You can't keep him hanging around for potentially one or two games.

How could you forget about Bristol Rovers?...

Ennis and John on the bench

Sounds like a great goal too - 30 yards out

Half an hour or so for Rafa Mir vs Forest.

So they're 2-1 down, Grabban is horribly isolated, they need some kind of threat from somewhere and so fine, you bring on your new striker. So far so good.

And then you put him at #10. Since when has he ever played there?

He made a fair enough fist of it. Tried hard, pressed better than anyone else in a red shirt, had one decent run and a couple of efforts blocked. But that is so clearly not his position or his game. I genuinely don't know what is wrong with some managers.

They did the same thing with Bonatini in playing him out of position. Great goal from Giles that too.

It just underlines why I'm so against loans in the vast majority of cases. You put them in the hands of some other idiot and it's not that likely they'll do a very good job, you waste everyone's time.

Giles would be an exception as we know we can trust our boy Sam (and in fact he will have worked with young Ryan here in the Academy).

Dean Keates didn't pick Connor Ronan to get in a team that got relegated to League Two FFS.

Their two wide players have both had good games

Helder doesn't belong in here, he's only technically on loan, he's never coming back...

Ah, is Helder this season's inverted Donk?

Update from the weekend.

Ivan Cavaleiro - Fulham, The Championship.

Started in a poor 1-0 defeat at Barnsley and couldn't get into the game, according to reports. Blazed an early shot over but couldn't make his mark and was withdrawn with 15 to go.

Ryan Giles - Shrewsbury Town (League One)

Got his loan spell off to a flyer with an absolute thriker as shown earlier. Voted MOTM by the Shrews' sponsors but that might have just been for the wonder goal; apparently he showed some nervy moments defensively. Sounds likes he played the left wing-back role.

Connor Ronan - FC DAC 1904 Dunajská Streda, Slovak Superleague.

Played 75 minutes of a disappointing 3-1 defeat away from home.

Subs: Rafa Mir (Nottingham Forest) Came on after an hour against WBA but suffered from dodgy tactics, as mentioned by DW. Niall Ennis (Doncaster) Introduced after 67 minutes after only being with the squad for a day.

Unused subs: Norris, John, Herc.

Shrews are definitely playing wing backs.

I think we would have tried to get Gilo higher but it's more important he learns where we'll actually need to use him as and when the time comes.

He doesn't have a Wolves career, just about whatever we can recoup

Ivan Cavaleiro - Fulham, The Championship.

Stayed in the starting line-up for the visit of Blackburn. It was a dominant display from Fulham but Cav appeared to play a bit-part role, just having the one dipping shot on goal that flew just over. Subbed on 79 minutes.

Ryan Giles - Shrewsbury Town (League One)

Was always going to struggle to emulate last week's debut and was on the losing side at McDons today. Fed the ball to Dangerous Dave who crashed a shot off the bar. Lasted the full 90 though.

Connor Ronan - FC DAC 1904 Dunajská Streda, Slovak Superleague.

Played the full game in another defeat, this time 2-1 away from home. Booked in the process.

Subs: Rafa Mir (Nottingham Forest) On after 72 minutes and got a bit of a jammy assist. Good run to the back post though. Niall Ennis (Doncaster) Came on with 20 minutes to go to help his team get an equaliser.

Unused subs: Norris, John.

Not in squad: Bright, Dadashov, Herc.
