From what I've seen, Stourbridge's level is nowhere near as technical as the U23s. The pitches don't help matters but you don't see much possession based football at Amblecote!
I think U23 football is declining in quality but technically the level is probably about lower championship/ league 1 in the division we are in. However the physicality is nowhere near adult football, which is the biggest shock to nearly all players. The pace of the game being somewhere about conference level but that depends on the opposition. I'm not sure the U23 system we have now is the answer at all and it needs to be more competitive without losing the technical edge.
The best young players we have in the England set-up are playing first team football in the main with the lowest being Championship level so I'm not quite sure what the answer is.
Those that know more than I say the issue with U23 football is that it lacks intensity and competitiveness and therefore offers little true preparation for first team games.
Notched an assist within the first minute, picked up the ball on the left, showing some tidy footwork to get himself some space before delivering a peach of a cross for the incoming attacker. Had a part to play in a lovely team goal for the second as well, plus had a curling effort palmed away before being subbed near the end. Seems to be an integral part of a team charging towards the play-offs.
Monday
Another assist in a 2-2 draw, again with some clever footwork to get him space to clip in a cross for the first goal.Subbed with 15 to go.
Michal Zyro - Charlton Athletic, League One.
Saturday
Started at Northampton in a 4-0 win. No goals or assists this time though, subbed on 67.

Another start and this time time opened the scoring with a beautifully struck shot into the bottom corner from 20 yards out. Subbed with 8 minutes to go of the eventual 3-1 win.
Goal on 40 seconds:
Connor Ronan - Portsmouth, League One.
Saturday
Came on as sub with 15 to go at Walsall and they scored almost immediately after winning the game 1-0.
Duckens Nazon - Oldham, League One
Monday
Back in the starting 11 at Blackpool after a niggle and had a good effort saved. Subbed after 67 minutes in a 2-1 win.
Ethan Ebanks-Landell - MK Dons, League One.
Saturday
Dropped back to the bench and came on with 15 to go in a 2-1 win at Gillingham.
Monday
Back in the starting line-up and a full game in a home defeat to Blackburn.
Ben Stevenson - Colchester United, League Two.
Saturday
Played in a 2-1 win over Luton and grabbed an assist with a corner. Subbed on 82.
Monday
A full game at Forest Green and an excellent goal, his second for Colchester. Picked the ball up, took a few strides forward then smacked it home from the edge of the area. Turned out to be the winner in a 2-1 win.
Goal on 1:45:
Connor Johnson and Ryan Giles - Telford United, National League North
An inspired debut from Giles, the 18 year old put in a man of the match performance to inspire the Bucks to come back and beat Spennymoor 3-2. Scored the goal to equalise, cutting in from the left and driving past the keeper. Seemed central to their attacking play throughout the game and could be their key to survival if he keeps it up. His Wolves colleague Johnson came on to shore things up for the last few minutes, picking up a booking in the process.
Andrew Sealey-Harris - Farnborough FC, Evo-Stik Southern Premier League.
Saturday
Another start but subbed off with 10 to go in a 4-0 defeat.
Tuesday
Started against Basingstoke and lasted the full game in a 4-3 defeat.
Aaron Hayden and Nicolae Carnat - Stourbridge FC, Evo-Stik Premier.
Saturday
Both played the full game in a 1-0 defeat to The Yeltz.
Danny Armstrong - Dunfermline, Scottish Championship.
Saturday
Came on for the last 25 minutes of a 3-1 win over Queen's Park.
Jack Ruddy - Ayr United, Scottish League One.
Saturday
Let in a howler at Easy Fife, somehow jumping out of the way of the shot. His team went on to win 3-2 however.
Joe Mason - Colorado Rapids, MLS.
Saturday
Subbed with 12 minutes to go in a 3 nil win over Philadelphia Union.
Again this is Wolves' fault with their shoddy updates - looks like Ryan Giles is part of our Telford crew. Scored last night. I have no idea when he went there as they didn't bother telling us.
