Let's talk about Nuno....

Whilst I enjoyed that lovely paragraph it has absolutely nothing to do with Klopp’s words. Not opinion but his actual words.

The very fact you assumed it was confidence was wrong. You can admit that y’know, you must just be lacking in confidence tonight. ;)
Condesending, that's a word.

More from Jurgen Klopp: "You saw what went wrong, it's more about why? The only explanation now is that we are a fatigued team, mentally more or less. That leads to not the maximum freshness in your legs. Brighton deserved to win, they played well, they did well.

"We had our moments but they deserved to win. They are a good football side. We had to defend with a lot of running, there is no formation in the world where you are always in the right place. The best way to defend against a team like that is to keep the ball yourself but we couldn't do it tonight.

"The only thing we can do is use the things that happen and learn from them. The solution is always the players. It has been a tough week and tonight it was not enough. City are flying and we have to find solutions."

“We looked mentally not fresh. They deserved to win. We wanted to play better and more convincing. We lost too many balls in promising situations. I know the boys can play pass A to B but today B did not seem reachable.

“We had a really tough week. Brighton is a football-playing team.

“We were not fresh tonight and that’s when you have to find a way. Each player can play better than they did tonight. I know them, it’s not because they didn’t want to. Something else must be the reason.

“If we make too many chances we lose rhythm. That leads to the situation where Brighton beat Liverpool and deserve it.”

Mentally not fresh. What does that mean then?
I would say that not mentally fresh means tired. Too many games in too short a space of time and the players haven't recovered physically and mentally.
Confidence is when you are physically and mentally fit (or not) but you don't believe you can win because everything seems to be going against you

It's everywhere in the league at the moment: look at Manchester United, beaten by Sheffield United then stuck 9 past Southampton.

The odd result is weird, league table positions not so much

It's an utterly batshit mental season when you look at the inconsistencies across the league - that includes league positions as well as results.

The following have all been at the top of the league at some point this season:

Southampton - now lost 4 on the bounce including a 9-0 tonking at Old Trafford the other night
Spurs - lost the last 2, held to a draw at Fulham, very inconsistent results
Everton - rubbish November after a strong start
Liverpool - now lost at home twice in a row for the first time in 9 years having gone unbeaten at Anfield for several ice ages
Penchester Utd - seemingly, Ole was in trouble earlier in the season. Still right up there but not like they've been a class above since the start of the season. In fact, I'm pretty sure both Manchester clubs were in the bottom half of the table after about 6 games - definitely below us.

There have been crazy one off results such as Sheffield Utd beating Man Utd, Liverpool shipping 7 at Villa etc etc.

We have seen frustrating levels of inconsistency with our own side this season but it's not unique to Wolves. I don't believe we're going to be in any trouble and that we will start to pick up points but I don't believe it's just Nuno who is struggling with this weird season.

It's no coincidence that the number of strange results, runs of form, volume of injuries etc happens in a season that's been decimated by the pandemic and played in empty stadia.

No denying it's a weird season and there's some weird results but some are affected more than others. We've had some decent results and some poor results but it's only really the West Ham score that stands out as that unusual (even then, they're having a good season so maybe not).

If you just woke up from a coma and didn't know there was a pandemic and looked at the league table, it wouldn't be that shocking. Liverpool and Chelsea a bit under par so far (and will probably make that up anyway) ; West Ham and Villa over-performing; us and probably Burnley under-performing and Sheff Utd having a disaster.

I agree.

There have been some odd results in isolation (like the Villa/Liverpool one), but we're not 14th because of the odd weird result. We're 14th because we haven't been very good. Of course, there are other contributing factors - but every club has been affected in some way by those.

I think it's been said a few times, but we just need to get through this season finishing as high as possible, and then build again in the summer, by which time I think we all hope some degree of 'normality' has returned.

I don't think we should fool ourselves that one off bad results for other teams mean that much, or that everyone is suffering to the same degree.

To me we look like the most under-performing team in the league after Sheff Utd so far. Hopefully we turned a corner on Tuesday

Having no pre season whilst others had close to full pre seasons or had extra time off (with much larger squads than ours so could rotate more) has fecked is up more than any other club.

I don't think anyone is denying we have been awful, just that outside factors have contributed to our awfulness.

I couldn't do what Nuno and Neves are doing and be thousands of miles from my family for example.

Well hopefully, yes - absolutely no question we have underperformed as the sooner we climb that form table, the better.

But let's be positive and look at the form table for the last 4 games. I've chosen that just because I can.

Wahey - we're 12th, above Everton, Spurs and Villa! #onwardsandupwards

Not only those two; if you've been seeing the news coming out of Portugal and have family there, it must be awful. That's going to be a distraction for our players more than most.
