Is he good enough?

For 2014, Dicko and Sako got 15, Afobe got 13 in 21. So that season was a productive one too. Only season he is a point is last season (we were shit), and 2005 and 2006 where we were playing Hoddle ball, and then the season after massively over performed with MM where lots of players chipped in.

2001 Sturridge 21
2002 Miller 19
2093 Rae 8 Camera 7
2004 Miller 19
2005 Miller 12 Cort 11
2006 Bothroyd 9
2007 Ebanks Blake 12
2008 Ebanks Blake 25
2009 Doyle 9
2010 Fletcher 10
2011 Fletcher 12
2012 Ebanks Blake 14
2013 Dicko Sako Griffiths all 12
2014 Sako Dicko 15
2015 Afobe 9
2016 Costa Edwards 10

These are our top scorers since 2001.So most people on here crap on about a 20 goals a season striker. Ebanks Blake and Sturridge are our only two this century. I think Leo and Jota could both be this season. That's all I was pointing out. I stand by the statement that prolific scoring strikers here is a rarity. That list shows it

Number of 20 goal men:

2016/17: 4 (Wood, Abraham, Gayle, Murray) - Championship
2015/16: 3 (Gray, McCormack, Hernandez) - Championship
2014/15: 5 (Murphy, Deeney, Rhodes, Gestede, Ighalo, Wilson) - Championship
2013/14: 4 (Baldock, Assombalonga, Agard, Wilson) - Lg 1
2012/13: 5 (Murray, Rhodes, Austin, Vydra, Wood) - Championship
2011/12: 3 (Van Persie, Rooney, Aguero) - PL
2010/11: 2 (Berbatov, Tevez) - PL
2009/10: 5 (Drogba, Rooney, Bent, Tevez, Lampard) - PL
2008/09: 3 (Ebanks-Blake, McCormack, Scotland) - Championship
2007/08: 3 (Ebanks-Blake, Phillips, Beattie) - Championship

Pretty hard to have a team with 20 goals a season in from one player at any level.

Watched the full Norwich match on Wolves tv last night and thought Bonatini was one of the games stand out players, his movement for others and work ethic alongside top quality link play was top draw stuff.

precisely, and the system should be to generate chances across the front 3 and for anyone else chipping in.

there's lots of variables in thinking about a 20 goal/year striker anyway - i mean how many seasons did, say, John Richards score 20 goals in? 3 or 4 maybe?

I think what the discussion and the various stats show is that scoring goals in football is actually really hard, even if you're creating loads of chances. You have to have a pretty exceptional season to bag 20 goals and it's unlikely that a team will have a striker who does that season on season.

To my mind, it's that rarity factor in football that elevates it above basketball or similar sports where points scoring is relatively easy and free

Have to admire your persistence Cyberman. You have proved your point. I would have admired your persistence in the face of fire. I never look on the OT Forum but if you are a Ukipper and Brexiteer you just lost any kudos you might have had.:headbang:

Is it just me or is anyone else sick of the snide comments aimed at those of us who did not and still do not want a federal United states of Europe? The comments from those who refuse to accept the result where they sit on some sort of moral judgement where they state as a fact those who voted remain are somehow superior to those that voted leave is seriously grating, without seeing it on football posts

Hmm... Can we not have a Brexit debate here please?

Seems totally unnecessary when we should all be very happy with how our team is performing at the moment.

Great thing about Leo is it's not all about the goals. If he scores 20 goals this season and continues to assist others in the way he has been, something will have to go horrifically wrong elsewhere for us to miss out on promotion.

Apologies Langers. I just watched the whole Norwich game and thought that Bonatini is THE vital part of our team at the moment and demonstrates it in virtually every game that he is involved.

I agree. He contributes so much to the team, and he creates space and chances for other players. Something a fully fit, on song Costa will thrive on.

I cannot believe that some people had doubts about Bonatini...:run:

That surprised me. I thought King John scored 20 plus goals a season on a few occasions.

me too, but I think it's because we had quite a few cup runs and he bagged a lot in those. So he was definitely over 20 a few other times if you include those.

On target for 25 goals and 10 assists in the league which would be a superb return. What would that fetch in the current market, £12m minimum? His touch and link up play is a joy to behold, as is his now almost telepathic understanding with Jota. I'll admit to being very concerned when we didn't sign a striker on deadline day and let's pray Leo doesn't get an injury before we sign a striker in January (which we surely will).

Love watching him play football.

I think Ronaldo and Messi have made people forget that scoring goals is difficult and that a ratio of 1 in 2 is extremely rare and very good. Those 2 have been getting a goal a game for years now making everyone else look worse!

If he scores tomorrow night, he can even relax and stick to 1 in 3 for the rest of the season to get him 20 goals.

Agreed. Between 1987-2006 alan shearer had 7 seasons of scoring 20+. Given he was one of the top strikers in the world for the time, then even the best manage it only a third of the time.
