Leicester City (H) League Cup Rd 3 25.09.2018

Not a huge fan of comments like this after we lose. We should want the squad and club to progress as far as possible in all competitions.

I've never been interested in the league cup. Ask around, all the cool kids know.

We lost! the game was fairly crap and the pens were mostly crap. Going far in these cups helps keep the squad happy. So they are of some value

Just got back in, first 10-15 minutes Leicester were all over us, couldn't get out of our own half. As the half progressed we came more into it, creating a few half chances. Second half was more even and we finished strongly.
Penalties were appalling from both teams.
Ruddy did well, one terrific save,
Back three were solid apart from a couple of dodgy balls out by Hause and Coady. Really liked the look of Dendonker, headed his high balls out, made his tackles and was calm under pressure, good on the ball too.
Jonny was good as usual and impressed with Vinagre.
Cav was lively and looked fully fit.
Leo didn't have too much impact I thought.
Traore had a few headless chicken moments but improved second half, don't think he's ready to start, still an impact sub for me.
Saiss and MGW struggled to get any control early on but improved as the game went on, MGW really started to influence the game last 25 minutes.
Good run out for the '2nds' and valuable game time for Cav. Shame we're out.

That's the disappointing part. Short of injuries it's the last time Hause and Ruddy will play now until January and the last time a number of others will start a game.

I agree with this

A bit on Leo though - I don't think he has anything in his locker that can hurt teams. Leicester played a really high line because Leo can't get in behind them. Even if Traore or Cav had, leo wouldn't be able to keep up. He's not great in the air either so my view is that he's easy to defend against. He'll drop deep and keep play ticking over and he's very good at that but I do think we need something a bit different

I give precisely zero forks or figs about this result. My disdain for the so called League so called Cup is well documented.

See these types of comments baffle me. I give a fig about every Wolves result.

As high as our ceiling may be, this competition is likely to be one of our first/only opportunities at silverwear. I’m not saying we play the first team (and I was ok with tonight’s selection), but I still really want us to win. What’s the point in football if you can’t get up for games?

Watch Leicester draw Burton now. All of a sudden they’re in the last 8.

Well, the post I read recently about negativity in matchday threads certainly doesn't apply to this one. This seemed to me a pretty dire game, but catching up on here has made me take rather more positives from it. Still a very different experience from watching us in the league, but I guess we can't expect to have a CL side's depth of squad until we're a CL side ourselves.

Did anyone feel that Jonny was an improvement on Doc? I didn't think there was much to choose, all in all, although that's perhaps difficult to judge without Neves organising things in the middle.

Jonny is Mr reliable, rarely makes a mistake, much better defender than Doc, not much in it going forward, Doc slightly better but as you say that may be due to having had Moutinho directing him. Thought Jonny struggled a bit early on with the long diagonals to him due to him being shorter so didn't win as many of the aerial balls

Switched sides for one game... Sure he'd outshine if actually given the RWB spot. But alas.

I'm sorry, but based on form this season, that is absolute bollocks. Doc has been overwhelmingly better going forward, and surprisingly solid at the back. That people still clamour for him to be dropped is ridiculous, he's been the better of the two wingbacks overall

He's not been overwhelmingly better, he's just used more often as the option to get forward from WB. Perhaps Nuno sets us up that way as he know's that is more his strength than defending.

Jonny has been the better player all round. Defensively he's been our best player, even better than Boly.

I thought Doc looked a bit lost against Everton when he got forward, lack of confidence maybe or because Richarlison did such a good job of tracking him. He was great against Burnley and City though and from what I hear he played well at old Trafford too. Jonny seems to take up more clever inside positions which is useful as he’s right footed but from what I’ve seen his final ball and decision making has room for improvement when he gets there. He looks extremely solid defensively though and fits the system perfectly.

All I can remember from last night was the absolute utter fuckknuckles I sat next to and in front of in the 2nd half. Moved seats to join Mr Deutsch and fucks sake these people were off the scale (not the Doosch though). Leo was getting the full force of the stupidity, managing to blame him for everything even when he wasn't touching the ball and then cheered when he was subbed (I really really hate this type of fan). Spent 35 mins slagging off Gibbs-White then he made a good pass and they started to sing the Gibbs-White song. Thankfully they had a programme so they could identify the rest of the team "Who is number 29 again?"

Fuck offfuck off FUCK OFF

As I said during the match, I bloody love Jonny. I've waited so long for us to have a defender as good as him in our starting 11. Positionally, he is fantastic - and most of the time he just does it without thinking. He's got on board with Nuno's formation and style immediately. How many times do you see players come in from a European/foreign league and struggle? He looks like he's been playing here for years. That said, Doherty (bar one stinker) has also been very impressive this season. It says a lot that we have a Belgium international on our books and he can't even get in our matchday squad at the moment.

On a separate note, I see Bonatini has been getting pelters on all forms of social media. I wonder if we'll see Dendonker/Cav start to replace Leo on the bench in the matchday squad from here on in? Whilst I don't agree with the abuse he's getting, it's clear to me that he is totally out of form and has no confidence. He needs taking out of the firing line because we can't afford to carry anyone. Bar the one through ball to Cav, I can't actually remember a great deal of what Leo did last night?

I thought Doc was dreadful at the start of the season but is now stepping up and should rightly retain his place. Good to see Jonny over there with Vinagre in the team its the combination we would have seen if Doc didn't sort himself out.

Doc and Costa in particular have improved massively since the start of the season, we just need some of the others to fully find their feet and we will be a dangerous side.

As for the cup personally im gutted we are out, I love to see the 2nd string and the development of the likes of MGW and Vinagre. One of Cavs early touches on the turn last night was filthy and reminds me very much he will be a great option off the bench. Hause, Dendoncker, Leo, Vinagre, MGW and Cav all need competitive games to stake a claim for their place and they won't have that for a while now, which is really disappointing for me.

Doc was no different to any other player v Everton really and had a mare at Leicester but that is magnified by the miss and the stunning OG. Since then he has been fine and is rightly our 1st choice RWB right now. Last night showed us though if he loses form or gets injured (apparently was set to play last night but has a thigh injury) then Jonny and Vinagre are a decent wing back set up as well.

The Bonatini hate just isn't going to die down, is it? He played some really good balls through in the 2nd half and although I wouldn't say go so far as to say that he had a great game, he did plenty right and showed he's an intelligent footballer. Unfortunately, we have plenty of fans who simply aren't intelligent, can't see what he brings to the side and instead decide to direct a quite bizarre amount of abuse his way.

I liked the look of Dendoncker, thought MGW ended the game well and - as Kenny says - we've a good backup in the LWB position in Vinagre.

Outstanding save by Ruddy as well btw from Albrighton. England's Will Norris won't be getting near the squad any time soon.

The Bonatini hate just isn't going to die down, is it? .

We never really got balls into the box for him and he spent a lot of time out wide as well trying to link play (even spent a good 5 mins in the Right Back area in the 1st half). We are fast moving away from Leo and I doubt he will be with us next summer and Jiminez is such an upgrade on him. However, he doesn't hide away and he puts everything in when he plays and he doesn't deserve the shit he gets or got from the idiot sat to my left last night. In the second Jota played the ball into him and he just did a simple lay off for Jota to run onto, however the moved stopped because Jota was taken out and we got a free kick and the lad next to me went full idiot with arms waving, stamping of feet and demanding to know "WHAT THE FUCK ARE FUCKING DOING LEO FUCK OFF".

Agreed. He's miles better than Jonny going forward on current evidence.
