Leicester City (H) League Cup Rd 3 25.09.2018

Jonny, Coady, Dendoncker, Cav and (eventually) Traore will probably start a load of games this season between them, Jota and Bennett came on too, no-one minds Ruddy playing as he's a good keeper, I think the team was fine. A draw was about fair and then it's down to pens. It's not like we sent out EEL, Buur etc and got battered. We gave a good Leicester team a good game (without creating a huge amount).

The first team had to put a hell of a lot of work in at Old Trafford, the league is the competition that matters. Historically speaking we do not have a great chance of winning this competition anyway, as I've demonstrated it's not exactly a free for all for any mid-table side to go and hoover up a trophy. One of the CL teams normally win it.

Tottenham in December is a must for you then...

Incredibly more likely to be able to get Spurs tickets! Same with Chelsea! Don't think I can realistically keep sitting with home supporters sitting on my hands!

No and I am not picking holes in it at all. It's fine margins. Personally I would have risked Moutinho second half. I had seen enough to see that creativity was the problem in my view. I would have risked it as I see that competition as holding value for us at this stage of our development. Others don't. Fine.

Demari Gray is lucky not to be out for a year for Leicester having been risked. It's a stupid gamble with the size of our squad. Far more important fish to fry. The cups will come when we have built our second string up a bit more (by improving the first XI and having those replaced drop down).

We lose Moutinho for the season and the whole project is potentially fucked.

I don’t have any issues with the team, we’re just a strong CM away from winning that game.

I’d argue a mid table team might have a chance if they took it seriously (add in scrapping seedings, so one of Chelsea and Liverpool are out already, Watford could easily beat spurs, Utd are out). The reason why mid table teams don’t win it is because City’s reserves are better than Leicester’s reserves for example.

Scrapping ET helps as well, so managers shouldn’t be worried that their players could potentially get through a stupid amount of football midweek before a big game at the weekend.

Mmmm. See why u worry but on that basis we may as well wrap up all our quality in kid gloves. I hope they all have an injury free season. As we well know there are times when fate thinks otherwise and it doesn't matter what competition !

With Moutinho we will finish somewhere between seventh and tenth. Without Moutinho maybe tenth to thirteenth.

We won’t be relegated, if we have a great season we can make the uefa cup, but it’s a push.

We could have risked him for 20 minutes yesterday and maybe got through and increased our chances of winning the carabao and qualifying for Europe.

Qualifying for Europe would be massive for us in terms of keeping the likes of neves and attracting real quality. For me, given I’m confident we won’t be relegated it would have been worth the risk - now we only have two chances left, both of which will be more competitive.

I think, in terms of what's achievable, finishing 7th would be 'easier' than winning a cup

Yeah, without a doubt. I'll back us to finish above say, Leicester and Everton over a season (not easy, but doable if things fall our way) rather than beating City or Chelsea in a semi-final or final.

Man City tend to play a fair few reserves - Foden, adebiyo, Diaz, Zinchenko, muric etc... not unbeatable.

Not at that stage they don't.

The team they put out at home to Bristol City last season: Bravo; Danilo, Stones, Mangala, Zinchenko (Walker); De Bruyne, Toure (Agüero), Gündogan; B Silva, Sterling, Sané

It's pretty good.

We’re not at that stage yet though, there’s still a couple of rounds before then. And didn’t that side only beat brizzle 5-3 over two legs?

Especially over two legs! That I agree with. But what odds they both make it?

I specifically said about facing them in a semi-final or final :)

Doesn't matter on the margin, they still won and had plenty in hand if they'd needed to step it up. They were 4-1 up on aggregate with 25 minutes left in the tie, Brizzle made a comeback of sorts but they were never going to win.

If they don't draw each other then I would say it's very likely both will make the last four.

To be honest, city are a fantastic team - but it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that we could beat them in a one off game, even assuming they don’t go out to Skmeone else already.

Just seems short sighted to give up on one of the three options we have to qualify for Europe so easily, given relegation isn’t a massive worry, and how much of a leap forward Europe would be for us.

Is there no possibility we could have got them in the next two rounds then? :)

Or they could have got Chelsea, spurs or arsenal for that matter who could put them out instead...

I wouldn't say we gave up on it though, it wasn't a rubbish team last night, I wasn't disappointed when it was announced (if anything, it's a shame that we can't fit Giles in) and I wasn't especially disappointed with how we played.

Of course anything can happen in cups. But on the balance of probabilities...I'd take my chances on the league. I reckon we're going to be good enough to put your likes of Southampton/Brighton/Newcastle/Fulham away more often than a lot of other competitors will be.

just watched the extended replays... looks like a pretty rubbish game. penalties were dire!

sad that we're out as I would've preferred a number of those players be given more opportunities to play. I'd rather Vinagre, Dendocker, etc. and to a lesser extent Bonatini and MGW, not be collecting dust for the rest of the year.
