Leicester City (H) League Cup Rd 3 25.09.2018

We know we can compete with city, because we did it only a few weeks ago. They’re a great side, but we’re not beaten before we start these days. And seventh isn’t exactly a given is it? Over a season, a lot could happen.

There’s more chance of Moutinho being injured over thirty odd games than 20 minutes for example...

I certainly wouldn't say it's a given, as it stands I'd say we'll finish anywhere between 6th and 12th. Who can say. But let's not pretend that loads of mid-ranking teams thrive in the League Cup, because they don't. Ultimately the chances of us making Europe this year are pretty slim. There aren't many in the PL era who've gone straight from the Championship to a European spot (by whatever means), Forest in 1994/5 and Ipswich in 2000/1 I think? If there are any others then I've forgotten them. That would make it two out of 78 and none in the last 17/18 years I believe. These are not great odds, however special we are.

If you're asking me which game I can have us to win and which one is a 0-0 draw, Leicester or Southampton, then it's the latter every single time. I appreciate you disagree but to me, the league takes priority. It might be different in January if we're already in the high 20s or low 30s in terms of points, and therefore we basically can't go down, let's hope we get a nice FA Cup draw and see where it takes us. At the moment we have 9 points.

I get what you’re saying, it just seems a bit defeatist to not bother because it might not happen.

I think this season is a huge opportunity - there are no guarantees the good times will roll, much as we’re all feeling hugely optimistic about the future - I think we have to make the most of opportunities where we can, not just let them pass by.

Fingers crossed for a good fa cup run...

But we did bother!

I like all of those players who appeared last night.

If Leicester had lost on penalties would they have "not bothered"? Quite a few of their starting XI last night don't normally play, Ward, Fuchs, Iborra, Silva and Okazaki for a start, Morgan, Ghezzal and Ricardo are borderline at the moment.

Bit surprised that so many are saying it was a rubbish game, didn't think it was that bad, I've seen worse.......much worse.
My main interest was to see if the 2nd team could play in the same style as the 1st 11 and apart from the first 15 minutes, I think we did that quite well, not to the same standard obviously but not bad at all. I'd have no issues with Ruddy, Vinagre, Dendoncker and Hause starting a league game.
We'd be a bit short in midfield with Saiss and MGW but ok I think with one of them alongside Moutinho or Neves.
Any 2 from Traore, Jota, Cav and Costa is great although I still see Traore as more of an impact sub.
Striker is more of a concern, Leo just isn't the same player as a year ago, don't know why but if Jiminez gets injured we don't have anyone else to play that role unless one of the kids can step up.
Any of these players should be able to slot in and keep us competitive.
Anyone who thinks we can get a Neves/Moutinh/Jota etc to come and sit on the bench just in case is a bit deluded I think.

Whilst I am desperate for a trophy. We have to accept where we are at the minute.
We do not have the strength in depth to put a quality team out in the cup games.
That will come over the next few years.
Defensively we were good, our distribution was poor and going forward we were not that good.

I'll accept the defeat for what it was a.competition low down on our priorities.
Give it a couple of years and i'll be wanting to fight on 3 fronts I think Nuno will as well.

I like them too, and there’s value in playing the reserves - but Moutinho on the bench and Jimenez up front could have got us through. Derby played their first team, beat Man Utd, and they have a lot more games than us. They were braver. That’s their choice - personally, I’d have liked those two extra players as I can see value in going through - if others can’t, that’s their prerogative
