Ipswich 1-2 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Watched the game back just on Sky, very dominant especially second half. Again the midfield 2 dictated everything.
Ipswich look like they’ve spent a lot of money on quantities of championship players.
The old tactic of defending for 45 minutes didn’t work 5 years ago and doesn’t work now.
Sa had nothing to second half at all, agree on the rule of that back pass is an ass.
Should be a straight red or penalty, fully expect a rule change at some point.

You are making something up which doesn't exist. It's not DOGSO, it's a goalkeeper using his hands. There's lots of things I'd change about the game, particularly around what's viewed a foul and red cards, it doesn't mean those decisions are incorrect just because I'd like them to be.
Not sure on this TT. As soon as the ball is passed back then Palmer is no longer allowed to use his hands (question, after a back pass when can a keeper next use their hands?).

Palmer has used his hands to stop a goal, which isn't any different to Suarez Vs Ghana in the world cup. Neither player is allowed to use their hands and both stopped a certain goal.

I’ve got to admit, I haven’t read the rule book, but for a goalkeeper to illegally clear the ball off the goal line to not even yield a card of any colour is bonkers. If someone can categorically say DOGSO can’t be applied in that situation I’ll take it. That snippet earlier didn’t though.
But it has got legislation!?
It talks in very minimal terms (like pre backpass rule) rather than considering the actual impact thsn yes. One thing we can all agree on though is that it needs a propper law. Todays situation needs to be a red and/or penalty depending if you not want to treat it the same as outfield player.

It literally says “no disciplinary sanction”. A DOGSO would be a red card and by definition lead to a disciplinary sanction - so it cannot be one.

Yeah with regards to handling a backpass,
Not DOGSO. But we’re going round in circles here. It needs to be changed

I thought Joao Gomes was 'imperious' in the second half...

The back pass rule was brought in to stop time wasting and to speed the game up. My main gripe with what happened yesterday isn’t that the keeper didn’t get a card for handling the ball but that our indirect free kick was pathetic. Do we really want to see a keeper sent off for miscontrolling a ball so badly it necessitates him making a save? Maybe upgrade it where it clearly denies a goal to a penalty but a red card would be far too harsh.

Considering penalties have been handed out for pretty soft 'seeking/feeling contact' type 'fouls' in the PL, I think it's appropriate that an offence like Palmer's yesterday gets the same treatment

Speaks quite a lot to the gulf in divisions that to varying degrees we would replace quite a few of our squad yet they think it's quality.

Nice that we can all agree that Gary O Fraud is a wanker though.

Little aside from the actual game. The Wolves fan who was celebrating his 100th birthday at the game was invited by Ipswich for the day (he lives in Ipswich).
Also Delap congratulating the Wolves players at the end (he's still a whiny, cheating cunt though😃).
Doesn't mean anything from a football perspective but I like that shows a bit of class from a club that's been under the cosh all season.

Probably goes against the concensus but I don't think O'Neil is a fraud or wanker.
He was out of his depth and clearly not up to the job but that's on Shi and Hobbs, I don't blame him for taking the job or trying to hang on to it, he'd have been doing his best.
The pressure towards the end was telling on him, strange team sheets and throwing player under the bus was not a good look but that's high pressure I guess.

I agree with this. I've said before at any other club, he'd have been sacked before the things in your final sentence happened. Only Rodgers at Leicester is comparable and that was about cost. Easy to have empathy now - I didn't at the time, but that post Ipswich interview was quite sad

He'll be in the PL next season, he'll need to improve his conditioning though if he goes to a top club. He was knackered after half time

I keep saying that I feel awful wishing them to lose every week and get relegated. I have nothing against them and if we weren't their only rival for relegation I'd be rooting for them and hoping they'd stay up

Tbf he has to run himself into the ground to get anywhere as the est of the team is poor.
If he's at say Spurs he'll have a bit more back up.

I did say a top club 😃

In all seriousness it'll be interesting to see where he goes. Not sure he'll be wanted by those with the money to buy him and probably too pricey at least to begin with for mid table sides. Maybe Newcastle if Isak moves?
