Hull City 2 - 3 Wolves: Something about getting too excited...

I doubt we will see much more than 2 seasons of Neves at Wolves.

Que sera sera. Make the most of him while he is here. I think what this tie up with Mendes is showing that Fosun/ Mendes/ Wolves have enough potential and pulling power to attract some real quality. When the time comes for Neves to move to Barcelona, Real Madrid, Cheslea he will and Wolves will get 80 million ro even more. Yes that lad could really be that good. But its just as possible that Christiano Ronaldo might like one more year in the premier league and come to a newly promoted Wolves to have that last hurrah. Either scenario is a huge huge improvement in my opinion on the previous Wolves regime. Football 2017 is about the pulling power of your club and about enjoying the players for the time they are here. Until we are in the same bracket as Man U Barcelona, PSG then we will always be vulnerable to selling our best assets. That hasnt changed for 30 years. Bully showed remarkable loyalty but its 2017 and the game has changed. I will accept this journey for what it could be. An exciting era where the owners ambition is to get us as high as we can be , promote the brand to as wide an audience as possible and attract world class talent. Yes I believe that Neves is potentially, the first World class player we have had on our books this century. He is stand out magnificent and I hope he continues to showcase his talents with us. Even if only for this season. Its ridiculous that his level of ability is here and is our player, not a loan. He already looks an absolute steal at 15m. But Costa, Jota, Ruddy, Miranda, Boly are all international class. That makes them massive upgrades on what was here. Douglas looks a steal, Saiss is beginning to show why we bought him and his international pedigree, I will put money that Doherty will get a full call up if he keeps playing in this system so all of a sudden we have a team capable of playing at a much higher level. So far they are gelling and its early days. If they continue with this form then who knows how good theyu can be. There is no doubt the ability both technical and professional is higher than we have had at the club for many many years and I am just going to enjoy it. Stand , Walk, Run. The project is at stand and we have a long way to go but the first signs are very very good.

Realistically we'll need to be mistable next year and then hovering around the Europa league spaces at Christmas 2019 to keep him I think. Mental just writing it, but that's about it :icon_lol:

Given that he's still only twenty and highly like to improve significantly between now and xmas 2019, I'm not entirely sure it will matter where Wolves are sat in the table. If the worlds elite come knocking, that would be that I suspect.

Not going to grumble though if we get to watch a (borderline??) world class midfielder play a big part in catapulting Wolves through several notches of the football pyramid, and then earn the club £60m at the end of it all. Would do wonders for the clubs profile too I should imagine.

6 league starts last season. Why!?

Sorry to disappoint you all but the pundits on Talksport last night were saying we might do OK if it's a "nice, dry Autumn" but we'll struggle once it gets wet and cold. I'm confused as the average rainfall in Lisbon is actually greater than the rainfall in Wolves, but surely those lads on Talksport must be experts??

I love a laugh at Talkshite. They have previous history for getting it spectacularly wrong. They had us as promotion certainties in the August of the year we got relegated under Saunders. Lets hope they get this equally wrong and we go up. I would love to rub their noses in it.

We should offer Neves a new improved contract as soon as with a bigger buy out clause. My biggest worry is say Chelsea dump Conti and need someone in to run their 3-4-3 (3-4-2-1-) and we're flying at xmas they will come after Nuno. I would if I were them or is that a stretch of reality am I totally carried away. I'm 54 next month and looking forward to games like when I was 18 with the added benefit that I probably wont get my head kicked in.. UTW

I'm 65 in December and I haven't felt this good about Wolves in a long long time. I have some great memories of the 70's, but that was just a basic 4-4-2 ... get a long ball upfield, Dougan flicks on and Richards tucks it away; or out to Waggy on the wing, piss past the full back and get a cross in for Dougan or Richards to get on the end of; and then if it was cleared to the edge of the box, Hibbitt would lash in a 20/30 yarder, top corner. Simple, but effective in its day.

A huge "mea culpa" from me, and an apology to Mr Mendez.
Last season he worried the shit out of me, but from the snippets I manage to see over here, this is the best I have seen wolves play in a good many years.
Sign Nuno on a "leave and be assassinated" contract for loadsa money tomorrow.
I have waited a good few years to see wolves play this well, and the man has done it in a pre season with more to come.

Fair play to you there for admitting it,gonna miss ranty shouty pav though ;)

Trust me if Arry was our manager and we'd made this start Talkshite would be wetting itself.
As I've said before talkshite has its mates and favourites if you're not in that circle forget any positive coverage.
Durham did his 3up 3down last night about the championship, ups Barnsley, Ipswich and Cardiff no mention of us whatsoever.
Then they say Villa have had tough start with there fixtures. For some reason Durham has it in for us for years not sure why.
You can also argue this with sky we've virtually ignored for the first 2 months of the season.

And also, has anybody else noticed how far down the running order we usually are on the Channel 5 highlights show? Last week, even with our good start and being equal top in the table, we still were the penultimate highlights in the running order. I turned it on, expecting us to be one of the first 3 or 4, and then had to sit for another fifty-odd minutes until we finally appeared.

Same with Sky Sports News - on Sunday morning when they were reviewing the Championship goals they made a great fuss of "Top of the league" Cardiff and only put us about midway through the piece.

Gotta keep people watching, can't put all the good stuff first :D

They did the same with Huddersfield last season up till about October and I can't remember Sky putting Huddersfield on the box much at all the whole season. Not to worry it worked out alright for them in the end.

Can't say it particularly bothers me what the media perception of us is. Fwiw sky asked Iain Dowie about us before we played Yeovil and he was full of praise for how we played against Middlesbrough. They did the same with McInally before the hull game and he was glowing about our performance at derby. So basically people who have actually watched us will be positive.

Well, let's hope we can put away Cardiff on Saturday and maybe when we're top they can't ignore us any more! :)

You talk about international recognition, Cyber. I know this is bloody ridiculous but if you think about the Champo team of the season for 17/18 you could easily see Wolves having 5 or 6 players in it. Ruddy, Boly, Douglas, Costa, Jota, Neves, Saiss - are there going to be better players in the division in those positions?

I noticed on football on five that all of the traditionally well supported teams were kept until the final part of the show. I'm sure there are plenty of people who switch off once they've seen their team, especially considering what a pretty piss poor show it is.
