Giro d'Italia / Tour de France

Brilliant Simon Yates. And brilliant Tom Dumoulin to get back in the chase group and get the four bonus seconds. I think that is a two minute gap though. It could be enough. Chapeau sir, chapeau.

Yep, 2'11s. May be enough but it'll be close and the next week will be excellent. A really good GT so far.

If Dumoulin takes 2 minutes back, and that should be about the maximum over that course for the TT, then Thursday, Friday, and Saturday are going to be epic. I think Yates might just have this. What a brilliant, brilliant ride.

This is something else from Yates, he might lose it on Tuesday (only might mind) but even if he does surely Dumoulin won’t be able to defend whatever small lead he has across those 3 big stages. Unless Yates blows up, but as each stage goes by that looks less and less likely.

Up to Doumulin and Froome to now try and get time back in the mountains on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. That will be a tough ask.

Yates has been top drawer.

Yates will put it to bed in the first mountain stage. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see a LOOOONNNNGGG breakaway from Froome on the stage into Bardonecchia, but he is too far back. All Yates has to do is police Dumoulin.

Yates can just defend now, he’s nearly there. Still a real chance of the podium for Froome as well.

Tough day today. Yates with a small lead now and he needs a good day tomorrow to break Doumulin.

Thought Domoulin was class today, reminded Yates he's a worthy competitor when the terrain gets slopey. What a way to bounce back from a slightly disappointing TT stage. Sets up the final few days nicely.

Turned it on today just in time to see them ride through Asti, which we went to a couple of times when we stayed in Italy 2 years ago. Very exciting to see that massive open air carpark again :)

I thought it was weird how the conclusion was essentially just them clearly riding through a giant car park! Not the most beautiful finish to a high mountain stage I’ve ever seen.

That must hugely encourage Froome to go for a long one tomorrow. Break away on the Finestre and go 80 or 90ks.

I think Yates just had a bad day today, but he still has a bit in hand.

Watching the analysis the consensus seems to be that tomorrow suits Yates more than today.

Can see Froome having a tilt at it tomorrow too.

Yates panicked and should have brought Dumoulin and Froome back with his team; the gradients were more favourable for the former two than him and he suffered as a consequence of jumping onto the break. Get through today and I think he'll shut everything down tomorrow and roll in Sunday.

Yates in trouble on the Finestre. Lost the back of the Peloton. Team Sky driving it on.

Lost over a minute with half the climb to go. Thus could be it for Yates's Giro. Sad.

2 minutes down now. Dumoulin tucked in nicely behind the Sky guys at the front. His to lose now, you'd think.

Froome is smashing it up now. Attacking everyone on his own. He's looking good now.
This could be a very interesting stage now.
