Coronavirus

No I want everyone to stop wearing them. If you aren’t hearing impaired you have no clue how hideous it is.
I get your point on the distress or inconvenience caused by others wearing them but I don't see why that should mean you throw yours off with reckless abandon, it's potentially a benefit to others if you keep it on and little detriment to yourself, at least on this issue.

Well that's better than your idea that sounds a bit like you think they're within their rights to take them off and lead by example for others, despite it having no negative impact on themselves it they continue to wear them.
It does make logical sense though doesn't it. People are driven by what they see other people do. So if you don't want something to happen you aren't going to continue doing that thing in front of everyone, thus in your own small way perpetuating it.

I'd be intrigued to see how many people wore ear plugs when out and about if the virus was somehow transmissible by the ears. I bet it wouldn't be nearly as many as wear masks. It's an easy way to signal you are a considerate person without having to actually make any sacrifice.

The thing is associated with struggles to communicate for over a year. So you hate it. And you want the damn thing gone so there is no reminder of that distress. Mine is going in the bin the second I can get rid of it.

To expand on this if everyone had to wear ear plugs and masks in public for a year I can guarantee the vast majority would be desperate to bin off both. That’s been my life and I have had more than enough of it.

Andy Burnham confirms that masks must be worn on the metrolink as a term of travel but not on busses or trains… (it’s recommended though)

He literally makes zero sense that ruling.

At a guess, even if they control the numbers allowed per carriage people are more squashed together on the metro, like the tube, compared to a bus or train. For it to make sense the bus and trains will have to have a strict no standing room policy.

Busses currently have a no standing policy but the metrolink trams are well ventilated probably a lot better ventilated than a 72 seat double decker & those trams have a lot more room than a bus.

Just going to have to get used to random decisions from people/companies. It's what happens when Government's say one thing but then tell people to do the opposite and if you don't you are killing people.

Is it because Burnham has control of the trams in Manchester but not of bus travel hence the difference?

He has control of TFGM tendered services but stagecoach, first, diamond, Go North West etc can make there own rules. From what I’ve heard from friends working in the area. He’s tried demanding and the firms have said basically no they’ll make there own rules.

On a side note Burnham wants to turn manchester into a tendered system like TFL which is going down as well as you’d expect

This is correct. Andy Streete has said the same for the midlands - masks remain required on trams, and highly recommended on all other public transport.
TfL have different powers, and also their own enforcement in London, hence Sadiq Khan can implement masks as a requirement on all public transport.

by the sounds of it again going down the "we suggest" " we urge" "Social responsibility" blah blah so we can blame you in the coming months rather than into law
& this has begun already. Grant Shapps has been out giving interviews essentially advising people who booked hols to the balearics that now they've been put onto the amber list, well, you should've been aware and expected this, so tough.
Also, the old "it isn't our fault as we have no control over what happens in other countries" line.

My daughter has tested positive for covid today (tested yesterday). So we are all in isolation for 10 days, i was all set to go to Ibiza on Sunday. The timing is frustrating to say the least, 18 months without any of the 4 of us (my wife, me, my 8 and 4 year old daughters) having it, and then as we hit the last week of restrictions it sneaks up on us.

Oh well, it is what it is.

My daughter is fine by the way, no symptoms at all, we only tested her because our nephew has covid and she was with him very briefly last Thursday.

So, i wouldn't have been going to Ibiza anyway after the move to amber, which is a slight blessing and makes it a lot easier to get my money back.

What is strange is that my daughter is no longer testing positive, nor are my wife and my other daughter. So we still have 1 week left of self isolation, but none of us are testing positive!!! Farcical!

Melbourne/Victoria to be into its 5th lockdown tonight - 18 cases no-one in hospital.

Sydney been in lockdown for 4 weeks, with at least another 2 weeks to go - likely to be at least another 4. Total cases around 600, 50 odd in hospital.

10 million and the 2 largest cities in Oz all locked up.

They don’t fuck around do they!

It’s a ridiculously OTT reaction.
100% spot on . . . but it's life in Oz . . . the COVID obsession is literally destroying the country as it's increasingly becoming 7 separate entities (states).

The impact on the economy, businesses, those employed in the private sector, mental health etc is far outstripping the health issues re COVID. Literally, here in Oz, more people have died this year from blood clots re the AZ vaccine than deaths from/or with COVID !

In 2020 the country was spared the horrific death tolls seen in many other countries, simply, as an island (albeit a fucking big one) it was relatively easy to shut the borders early on, but that success has led to vaccine hesitation in 2021 (due to the exceedingly small issues with AZ) not helped by typical Govt. cock-ups with securing vaccines and rolling it out.

We're in this insane cycle of in and out of lockdown until the 1st quarter of 2022 . . . at least !

520k people pinged by the App and told to isolate in the last week
