Coronavirus

Who'd have thought listening to the science, following it and explaining exactly why you're having to do stuff for the best interests of the people would work? Ridiculous idea

So Christmas relaxation rules to remain (although Wales will go into a semi lockdown after it)

SKS raises why the rules need to be relaxed and this is the response from Boris

""I wish he had the guts to say what he really wants to do which is to cancel Christmas,"

So, confirmation not interested in controlling fuck all other than his own popularity. Boris Saves Christmas hoorah.

Yep he's been piss weak all through the pandemic.....mind you, I think lots of people are going to do whatever they want over Christmas, whatever the rules

Indeed. No matter what is in place some people will ignore it.

I will do a plus side on my grumbles today. Nearly 140,000 vaccinated in the 1st week. That is a fantastic start and hopefully when the Oxford vaccine is approved and the doses available increase they will be able to cope with increasing the vaccines given each week.

Zoe covid study is showing active cases are rising again and daily infections are increasing.

We will have to lockdown again, it's just a matter of when. Christmas is going to be an utter clusterfuck

Received wisdom is that nowhere is moving down a tier tomorrow, so all that "your tier is not your destiny" crap was unsurprisingly, a load of bollocks. If it's purely a numbers game then there isn't the justification to leave everywhere either the same or more locked down than they are right now.

Unlikely there'll be any further review this side of New Year (they ain't doing that on 30th December, are they), then we'll have increases because they don't want to U-turn on Christmas (as the BFC wants his stupid headlines, which he still probably won't get), so either a formal lockdown through January or everywhere bar Cornwall and the Hebrides staying in T3, which isn't far off the same thing. Brilliant. Fantastically managed stuff. We'll then be approaching a full year of total shit and we still won't have a plan.

Must admit 2 weeks ago I had (small) hopes of going down to tier 1 as T&W numbers were falling quite dramatically, from high 200's per 100,000 to 110/100,000 and it stayed the same all last week but with the rise nationally and our numbers for the last couple of days being 132/100,000, I've given up on that. So yes I think most areas will say the same as current

If the country was level or dropping in cases I could see tiers being reduced but no way will it happen whilst we are seeing increases.

I think this is the plan until we have enough people vaccinated to reduce the burden on the NHS.

Saying that, news on the Oxford approval has gone a bit quiet....

Shropshire was down to 64 but up in the 90's right now (if Telford is taken out, like they did on the original tiers). Apparently the local MP's were pushing for Tier 1 but have now backed away in the last few days.

They seem to think approval will be before Christmas.

That would enable our dear Leader to do one TV appearance wearing his glum face, telling us we need to make more sacrifices because we had Turkey with Granny and all the family you normally hate to see and the next day come out and do another to say 2021 has been saved as the next Vaccine is approved and ready to go

No real rise in Dorset at the moment and at a level of 44 per 100,000

Should put us in Tier 1 territory, but don't expect to move down from Tier 2 - suspect that it won't make that much difference to my current life whether we do or not.

Yeah my lads in Shropshire, they were down to 53 beginning of last week but yesterday was 93.....on the rise everywhere I'm afraid

I will be happy if we stay Tier 2. Won't change much for me, I can still take my Daughter out for a Birthday meal on Sunday (actually that depends on Cheshire staying Tier 2) and have a substantial bar snack and pint in the local on Christmas Eve. Won't be doing much else over the Christmas now London is a no go.

I suspect a tiny number to go down to Tier 1 as a minge/pricktease exercise in saying 'Look what can happen if you all behave yourselves,' perhaps a few up to Tier 3 and us all to be royally rogered in January.

So the rule of Christmas - Still the same BUT we should probably not do what we are allowed to do, so if it goes tits up it is our fault

If only there were some precedent for doling out advice along the lines of "please don't do X, but we are going to leave that door wide open for you regardless" and then it all went to shit.

I was hoping for the drop to Tier 1 a week or so ago but no chance now.

Had our beer drop today and our draymen, and a group of workers on the new Taylor Wimpey homes up the road who came in this morning and said they've been warned T&W could go Tier 3 when announcement is ever made.

Dont think it will right now, and cant see how it would be justified unless the hospital is suddenly overrun, but has got my team who were working this morning worried

would not make any sense, the cases were double what they are now when we were put into tier 2

I do have a bit of sympathy with the govt on this one. They can't ban Xmas gatherings because for some people it's a perfectly reasonable thing to do and they'll do it in a safe manner. They can't give free reign because people won't appreciate there is a looming danger.

They have to land somewhere in the middle. I agree that it'll get abused to fuck but people do have to take responsibility for their own actions.
