Coronavirus

They can sack them, whether it is subsequently determined to be a fair dismissal is another matter and only if they have 2 years service could they go to a Tribunal. The government has done nothing to extend employment rights as a result of Coronavirus beyond some change to SSP.

If an employee turns up for work with a fever/cough surely they are obliged to send them home on full sick pay? My belief is that an employer cannot send an employee home. Easy solution - cancel HS2 and divert the funds to keeping businesses afloat.

Agree with Andy I really don't think you could be fired for being sensible. Sounds like your boss is a bit of an asshole to be honest.

I would have thought there's a lot of difference between 'law' and 'government guidelines' such as the requirement to let you have bank holidays off ?

Interesting from one of the people advising the government

The easy excuse they have got is that it is people driven. Essentially the UK grinds to a halt for a month. You'll then get people complain they have lost their jobs/pay because they are forced to stay at home with the kids. You'll then have the Daily Mail indepth reporting on truant kids running around parks and shopping malls.

Think my holiday plans for the end of May are now buggered as Trump adds the UK to the banned countries. Thankfully all hotels and car rental are pay on arrival and no charge to cancel. If the travel ban on the UK - USA carries on I know Delta will refund or allow a rebook. Only 1 trip booked and JD have already emailed to say they will refund.

Small inconvenience and something I can rearrange but still fookin annoying.

+1
As some of you knew already we were due to fly back on the 27th. Which coincidently is my bloody birthday!!

We waited as long as we could seeing if the UK were gonna be on the banned list in the hope we could still travel
As you said delta allows a 1 time cancel at no extra charge so will look to come back later in the year and maybe bag a couple of home games at the same time

Reckon they'll close schools closer to Easter hols and keep them shut for April.

Hearing that a 'barracks' here is being 'deep cleaned' and will be turned into a hospital, also that there will be a 72 hour 'lockdown' next week and that all Gardai leave is cancelled.
God knows.

It never made sense for him not to include UK and Ireland. Suggestions are it was because of his golf clubs and hotels.

That and he wanted to stick his fingers up at the countries with those evil open borders.

without wishing to add to the stress, haven't delta had to apply for emergency funding recently?

I notice emergency legislation will be pushed through. The devil will be in the detail.

Another death in Wolverhampton and over 300 new cases today.

The curve is still almost exactly matching Italy.

Dunno. No stress though. It might still happen, who knows what will happen in Trumps head before then.

I would imagine that Boris would be mighty tempted to reciprocate on that travel ban.

"Trump is breaking every rule in the CDC’s 450-page playbook for health crisis

Amid an outbreak where vaccines, drug treatments and even sufficient testing don’t yet exist, communication that is delivered early, accurately and credibly is the strongest medicine in the government’s arsenal.

But the Trump administration’s zigzagging, defensive, inconsistent messages about the novel coronavirus continued Friday, breaking almost every rule in the book and eroding the most powerful weapon officials possess: Public trust."

God knows.

Garda trainees to be deployed, all that were due to be retired this year to be kept on.
Defence forces are to be deployed to aid the HSE with regards to everything from contact tracing, transport to helping in treatment, definitely ramping things

Then he is even more of a cock than I have thought.

Trump cares about ONE thing - re-election in November. Fuck everything else.
