Coronavirus

Have you ever read the I...?

The whole of the UK media is a shitshow at the moment. Eamonn Holmes said on GMTV today that we shouldn't discount G5 doesn't give you coronavirus because we don't know that. Instagram and youtube are cracking down on that kind of stupidity and we have someone pushing it into homes on UK terrestrial tv.

“I totally agree with everything you are saying ( I'm not a racist BUT ) but what I don’t accept is mainstream media immediately slapping that down as not true when they don’t know it’s not true. No one should attack or damage or do anything like that but it’s very easy to say it is not true because it suits the state narrative.”

“That’s all I would say, as someone with an inquiring mind.”

he has no mind let alone an inquiring one

Not really. Whataboutery is a very convenient term to use when you don’t want to respond. You said we were lucky to not have been forced to source ventilatiors through the EU scheme (which you would assume was not exclusive) as presumably you were supposing we could do better ourselves. 66 second hand ones from Germany and Holby City would suggest not.

Not what I said at all. Even if we'd been part of the scheme we wouldn't have ventilators now so it isn't ideology that we don't have ventilators.

In which case the government got lucky.

By the Twitter thread and a google search it looks like we have got the ventilators already and are not in short supply at all, it's the needs that have shifted as we've discovered more about the virus.

I find it highly unlikely that the engineers at McLaren and other automotive suppliers can't get past the standards set by the NHS. These engineers can get something from design to prototype in days (and they regularly do) and have diagnostic equipment most test houses and medics can only dream of.

Have you ever read the I...?

Edit - the I is also literally owned by the mail.

Yes, now and then - I’m not a huge fan. Although looking into it, it’s the independent that’s the leftie, the I sees itself as central though I’ve never had that impression.

If your takeaway is that a clearly avowed non party political newspaper is the same as the extremist right wing telegraph I would suggest you are talking out of your backside and wouldn’t know the i from your e.

Haha, do you actually think the telegraph is extremist right Wing? Where does the mail come in? Or the express (I missed that one off the list) which one do you see as marginal right wing?

Perhaps like Alanis you need to learn the meaning of ironic.

a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often wryly amusing as a result.

I found the idea of you criticising others for snide remarks unexpected and wryly amusing...

It sort of loses impact when I have to explain it though.

All that shows is, unlike you with the I, that I actually read the telegraph.

Totally thought the same, but then if people aren't working they get time to do more activities beneficial to health, less drinking after work, less smoke breaks, less work related stress. I was totally expecting to see a link between recession and life expectancy reducing. However, this is in high income countries, middle to low income countries might be worse off.

I'm not nailing my colours to the mast here, more surprised that recession might be good for your health

I gave my GP friend a big roll of plastic sheeting that I use in the garden to pass on to the local hospital this weekend. She said they're trying to source mattress bags to use as body bags, but if that fails they'll need to just wrap them up in plastic sheet. So that was cheery.

It's not uplifting news. But it's a sad reality. Not many peoples lives won't be touched by the coming weeks, if they haven't been already

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but if it's based on Toby Young or any other similar source who opens sentences with ' I'm no Doctor, BUT...' then it's incorrect by default. When dealing with issues such as Global Pandemics involving extremely deadly diseases , I think it probably is better to listen to experts than anyone else. This isn't football, this like discussing whose your favourite player and why, it's the gravest global crisis I've known in my lifetime. Expressing views that are based based on incorrect information and bad science are not just unwise they are outright dangerous.

I tend to disagree and work on the adage that all input to life and circumstance and therefore all output too is Bio - psycho - social. As such Toby Young and his views are extremely relevant to the well being of folk in this pandemic. One size does not fit all.

It's how people end up burning 5g masts because they believe they give you Coronavirus. I'm not getting aggy with you, I genuinely think that it carries a real danger. As I've said previously, this board gets read a lot more than by just its registered members and I think passing off incorrect facts just because 'you have a feeling' has the potential to influence others views who read yours and take it as read that you must have some solid basis for saying it.

That I feel is rather arrogant of you. You are setting yourself up as judge and jury and no more qualified than the rest of us to dictate the terms of debate. The 5G debate is rather complex but I would not censor people for detracting for fear some utter moron may set fire to a mast.

I think in the interest of transparency, it probably is be better to say what helped you come to your conclusions, whether that be a journalist, a website, a media outlet, a scientist or a world renowned expert so that others can judge for themselves whether that opiion should influence their own or not.

Agreed - this goes back to my first point.

I'm not saying that with any anger, or any intent to cause conflict, I'm just trying to be honest.

Touche.

Who I tend to believe the co morbidity/age argument comes from the Covid 19 Actuaries Response Group which consist of a group of professionals who have spent their careers making assessments of arguments such as that for amongst others some of the worlds largest financial institutes. As Actuaries, they are extremely qualified and extremely good at making decisions on the what and the why of people dying. They're not a group of left socialist no marks with an anti Tory agenda, far from it but they are volunteering their extremely valuable time to address some of the misinformation being put out by people who do have their own agenda in doing so

The EVIDENCE suggests the common denominator in the vast majority of all deaths regardless of ethnicity is age and co-morbidity.

It’s a complete fucking lie spouted by kooks like David Icke. Might as well debate with the flat earth society.

So genuinely - if the telegraph is extreme far right, where do the mail and express come in?

Hopefully unwilling to suggest Hitler was a PR move from greatness perhaps?

And then you disappointingly get Hollywood stars like Woody Harrelson and John Cusack piling on board to support it. Pricks.

It's not just Icke but let's be brutally honest he is far from the last word on everything. Freedom of speech and censorship are the thrust of what I am saying. There is a moot point that some may not have the capacity/intellect to even begin to decipher a balanced argument sensibly - the types who burn masts. I tend to question the fuck out of everything because I do not trust the official line on anything.

5G, get out. Its too busy killing all the birds in the sky to be bothering with humans....
