Wolves Loan Watch 2025/2026

Djiga epically shite on Livingston's goal today. What the fuck have we bought there.

From the weekend:

Nasser Djiga - Rangers (SPL)
Played full game in a 2-1 win at home to Livingston. Looked like he was running treacle as the Livingston forward glided past him for the goal conceded. Was also bailed out by a fine save from his keeper after a similar thing happened later on.

Tommy Doyle - Birmingham City (Championship)
Played the full game of a 4-1 win vs Norwich.

Pedro Lima - Porto B (Liga Portugal 2)

Played the full game in a 1-0 win. Booked.

James Storer - Greenock Morton (Scottish Championship)
Played as Morton lost 1-0 at Dunfermline.

Hayden Carson - Chester FC (National League North)
Played the full game in a 2-0 win vs Leamington.

Arthur Nasta - Hornchurch FC (National League South)
Played in a 1-1 draw with Truro-

On as sub: : Traore came on after 68 minutes in a 3-2 defeat at Brest, while Kaladjzic came on with 20 minutes left in a 3-1 win at Sturm Graz.

Not in squad: Lonwijk, Benjamin, Lembikisa, Griffiths.

Feel like its almost been washed away in all the terrible signings. Coming up to a year from having paid what we did for him.

Someone made a comment there had been a quote about "scouting the old fashioned way" from the club. Does that predate Djiga as he looks like he has the profile of someone who had one good day, when there happened to be a scout there.

I’m not buying the “old fashioned way” either. Any who has watched Jackson or Munetsi for 10 minutes could see they are dreadful

The three of them aren't even bad in the Guedes/Trincao unsuitable/lazy/gutless but at least some talent kind of way.

They're just very poor footballers who have no place in this league

Update from the Father In Law on Djiga:

If you didn't watch it, have a look at our highlights from last night. Djiga had another howler that cost us the win. He's been so poor for us after a couple of promising performances when he first joined. The fans have never taken to him because he was a Russell Martin signing, so many have already made their minds up. All of Martin's signings get pelters. I understand it must be difficult when the fans are constantly on your back, but mistakes like last night will never endear him. The problem is, our first choice centre backs are both out injured at the moment so we're having to play him.

I wonder if they'll send him back in Jan, despite being short on numbers in that area? We'll almost certainly end up flogging him for a huge loss - unless he comes back & Edwards thinks he might have something to offer in the Championship (he won't).

That was my paraphrasing this Daily Mail article from back in early September:

Whereas some clubs rely mainly on data and analytics to source targets, Wolves’ approach is different. They retain strong links with Gestifute, the company run by super-agent Jorge Mendes, and rely heavily on live and video scouting. Targets are then evaluated by key staff – but Pereira always has the final say. Potential players must be tall, quick and aggressive to earn his approval.
I completely buy this as our strategy basically since Fosun took over, even during the Nuno years. The best signings have come off the back of Mendes helping to convince players of "the project" (whichever version it was at the time), but most of what we've signed has had the stink of someone filtering for a couple of key attributes on Football Manager, watching a couple of games, and going "yeah, alright, seems to work." Whatever "data" is being used seems incredibly simplistic and one-dimensional.

Like there's just no way that we sign Tchatchoua unless the aim was something like "sign the fastest RWB for less than £X who currently plays in the top five European leagues," and working our way down the list from there. As if pace was the only thing Semedo offered the team.

From mid-week:

Djiga played the full game in a 1-1 draw vs Braga but made a poor defensive mistake, getting his footing all wrong for a header that gifted them the equaliser. Tommy Doyle played the full game and got the assist for the goal by whipping in a great free-kick. He was also voted Blue's MOTM in the 1-1 draw at the Toilet Bowl.

Lonwijk played 75 minutes of Luton's 2-1 win vs Huddersfield, while Hayden Carson played the full game for Chester in their 1-1 draw at home to Hereford.
