Wolves / Covid-19

The one which we do worse on is calling it after 19 games assuming they sub the Liverpool away game in and take the Man City home one out, that gets us to 8th or 9th

Along with voiding the season that's the least likely to happen I would think.

Or, if they just do the half way table as it actually stood, we'd be 5th...

Villa, Watford and Norwich would go down

I agree with Johnny they won't do it that way, but there's absolutely no chance they'll do a version that doesn't involve every team playing each other

I’d rather have the fans in if possible, but it’s pretty clear that we’d see most of the country’s professional clubs go to the wall if we wait until that’s possible, so I’d rather not.

Better football in empty stadiums than no football at all.

You think league 2 clubs etc can rely on tv money alone? No chance they need fans in too for their games.

Having a full season of attendances as well as tv money is what they need better that and starting later than starting normal time but having 50% of the season without any gate receipts.

May as well close League two now then as they're all going to go bust whatever happens.

Unfortunately I can see a lot of League Two, and possibly some League One clubs either going bust or having to go part-time/semi pro because of this

Some of the wages paid to lower league players is scandalous. I know of two players on £4K per week at league 2 clubs. That's stupid money to be giving anybody when the income isn't sustainable.

This situation will force an adjustment and players will want to play football rather than getting regular jobs.

Or some of the huge amounts of money at the top of the game could manage to find its way down even in the form of interest free loans/grants to see them through till they can return (with crowds).

Would require the FA etc to some how facilitate but its surely possible.

Its a fucking disgrace already that tax payers money is subsidising the wages of any footballer with the amount of money in the game.

The PL would need to have 14 votes to support that. Only 7 clubs are English owned - two of those are Ashley and the Porno Dwarves. How many care about the pyramid below the PL enough to cough up financially?

The money is on players wages and the clubs at the bottom are as guilty of overspending as anybody else. Giving money from top to bottom won't fix that.

To correct your point on the loans, there are loan schemes out there football clubs can access if needed like any other business and the FA provide emergency loans to clubs and have done for decades.

This may be a good opportunity for lower league clubs to behave as businesses in the most competitive market in the world.

Having said that FFP should be scrapped and replaced with a salary cap and unlimited club investment. The FA don't have the balls for that sadly.

Can't say I don't agree with any of that to be fair.

Your right it would be wonderful if this did result in ALL clubs to readjust, there's absolutely no reason a league 2 team shouldn't be part time in all honesty (but in the same respect there's no reason for Premier League players to earn what they do).

I just feel sadly like normal the elite will be the ones who don't have to change.

Fair point, and there's your problem really.

Should have been something in place prior to this (some sort of hardship fund administered by the FA) horse bolted a long time ago mind.

America sports teams have salary caps and their salaries are just as outrageous, albeit it’s only the absolute elite getting the top dollar not Mesut Özil taking stupid money.

Plus a lot of the headline salary isn't guaranteed and is team friendly

Contracts in the NFL has always been an area of never tired to understand. I know the guarantees are for injuries and performance but don’t know how it actually works. And also don’t get how the cap works as teams “restructure deals” to free up cap space and cut players for the same reason. Now I assume the cut is because they’ve got to pay them more than they feel their worth so by cutting them don’t pay the next years guarantee and as there’s no transfer fees then they can do this.

Makes you think in football they could make wages more performance based. So if you sign a dud then it doesn’t destroy your club - Roger Johnson, as you don’t actually have to pay that much if they don’t perform.

I've put something in the NFL thread to not bore people on here

The Scottish League has been ended.

Celtic are champions for the 9th successive time, Rangers are pissed off as are Hearts who have been relegated

Not sure why Rangers are pissed off. They had a chance to win that league and then fucked it up after beating Celtic.
