There is no issues with footballers refusing to play, obviously Deeney has special circumstances and he is allowed to do what we wants.
But the ones who are refusing to play need to not be paid or placed on furlough (2.5k p/m) and that stance needs to continue until there is a vaccine and/or effective treatment.
I’m sure Deeney’s feelings are genuine and would rather go unpaid than risk his child’s health (even if that risk is lower than normal day to day activities), but this can’t stop an industry, just like it wouldn’t other industries.

Agree its his choice, agree they shouldn't be paid but sorry no not furloughed! Why should tax payers foot that bill.
Anybody out there who has been asked to return to work (or work throughout!!) who refused to work would not be furloughed.
Wouldn't they be paid under sick pay conditions in their contract, or compassionate leave?
Well no ideally Deeney shouldn’t be on furlough as he’s got plenty in the bank, but I can’t stand here and say footballers should be treated like everyone else and then not treat them like everyone else. And for every Deeney, there are 3 other footballers at a lower level going month to month needing to be paid.
Plus there’s plenty of people milking the system at the moment who don’t need it but that’s a separate discussion.
Not a clue. I have no idea on the nuances of footballers contracts or for that matter any industry which isn’t my own.

Really? You sure it's not the other way round and there are a few people milking the system? I doubt there are many businesses that are deliberately furloughing staff to milk the system and most businesses would want to be open and earning again. Or would you rather people be out of work?
But that would be treating them like everyone else.
Furlough isn't for people who's employers/the government say can go back to work but they decide they don't want to.
That's not how it works/has worked.
It was purely a comment that “people are milking system”. Whether that be 1 or 1m. Shouldn’t have bothered putting it but I didn’t expect that to be picked up on in a discussion about footballers (and even tried to state it’s a separate discussion). I’ll know better next time.
I honestly don’t care how, what or by who they are paid. My point isn’t about “milking the system”, or furlough. It’s that if they don’t want to do their job then they can’t be expected to be on full pay. Simple as that...
Adrian Mariappa is the Watford player who tested positive.
