Wolves / Covid-19

Aston Villa have now stated that they are opposed to the neutral grounds idea.

Would appear that they believe that ppg isn't going to happen then

Heard his interview on talksport this morning, very much said staff and player safety is paramount. Well for starters playing on your own ground will immediately put that at risk with people possibly gathering outside.
Also denied any knowledge of talk about no relegation but then went on to say about clubs protecting their own interests and if relegated will lose £200mill. Well that’s happens when relegation occurs and part of the rules when you start the season.

It has reached the point where the league need to grow some balls and say that (assuming there is a Government go ahead) the matches are taking place as they have decreed. You can play the games or you can refuse and the game will be awarded to the opposition by a 3-0 scoreline. This self interest protection nonsense needs to be stamped out.

I presume that there is some sort of discussions at high level with the government on this, hopefully after Sunday there will be a clear pathway.

I say if teams don't accept what is presented to them then they forfeit the right to complete their fixtures, everyone due to play them will be awarded the points for a win whilst the remaining fixtures are played out. Relegation of course stands

The only issue with forcing players to play is that some of them might not be in the right frame of mind to play, or still fearful for their families safety. In that case they'll be under immense pressure from their clubs and fans to play. Which I don't think is right. There needs to be some sort of a discussion and agreement from the PFA and the players.

If that’s the case it’ll be a long time before any football is resumed. Same fears in June aren’t going to go away in early September.
Problem is a lot of people are going to be back at work come mid June in environments that are hardly 100%safe. Yes football is contact but so will a lot of jobs that will be expected to return.

Yeah they should be given the opportunity not to play......but like anyone else who's still had to go to work even when it was far less safe as its going to be made for them, they then void their contracts/don't get paid.

Some (thankfully seems like most of ours aren't) footballers thinking their lives are more important than the general public again! People in loads and loads of industries (not even talking NHS etc here) have still had to/and increasingly will have to, go to work with some risk involved (as there is in everyday life pre Covid) to keep the economy going, to keep services going etc. Some footballers seem to think they're different, like I say personal choice don't want to work don't but don't expect to get paid.

Bundesliga to return between 15th and 22nd May. Government have approved it. So, all eyes on Germany

I have read that all the Wolves players agreed to go back to training, i'm sure that wouldn't be the case at every club though.

Footballers can afford to take time off if they don't want to play. The issue is will they be pressured into doing so, by the clubs, fans, contracts etc.

They all need to agree that they can opt out if they so wish.

Can you choose to go into work if you don't feel safe and get full pay for it?

Football doesn't work the same as a normal job does it

Imagine the fun and games if a club tried to terminate a contract because the player was worried about getting seriously ill or passing the virus on.

If the PL or any football wants to play on there has to be a consideration to the players.

Yet players are using the same 'place of work' excuse as us plebs. Can't both be right.

Head of the LMA has said if clubs like Villa don’t alter their stance then the may be called off. Not a very helpful statement just encourages the chief execs at the bottom 6 to be belligerent and do what they can to put things off.
Just hope every other PL club wants the season to restart, apparently the bigger clubs in the league are getting very annoyed by the behaviour of the bottom 6.

It's been said that players won't be forced to play if they don't feel they should. Which is absolutely the thing to do.

I'd hope that those not wanting to do so would donate their wages to the NHS charities or local community projects.

If they don't play they shouldn't get any wages to donate and should be sacked in the same way anyone else would be.

Fucking precious bellends here's been people who are far far far more at risk than they will be going about their business for massively less money (I might add) throughout it all.

Good job the doctors, nurses, carers etc didn't have this attitude isn't it.

Purslow seems to created a good deflection away from the clubs true failings by his comments. Many Villa fans seem to be buying the fact that the neutral venue idea will completely disadvantage them and be a huge contribution to their demise.
What he’s unwittingly said is our squads not very good and I don’t trust them to do a job on neutral venues.
Well Christian your the chief exec at a club that’s splurged £100mill+ in the summer and the squads still not great, think you need to look closer to home for the blame if relegation occurs.
