Wolves / Covid-19

From the Athletic

Wolves are set to return to training next Monday with head coach Nuno Espirito Santo and several players due to fly back to England this weekend, The Athletic understands.

Nuno and players such as Joao Moutinho, Ruben Neves and Ruben Vinagre have been at home with their families in Portugal but will return to Wolverhampton ahead of a pre-season-style training schedule starting next Monday.
Presume Wolves will be sticking on a private plane to get them and their families back?

Robbed this off the times as a potential schedule for how it could all work

Gordon Taylor says that halves of under 45 minutes are being considered. So now we have the possibility of
Neutral venues
No fans
No relegation
Shortened games

If either of the final two are serious proposals then I'd just bin it until the Autumn and go ppg

I don't see how having shorter games helps in any way at all. Exposure is exposure, and there is no scientific evidence as to whether one minute exposure is better than say 45 minutes exposure.

If we want to look after the integrity of the league you simply cannot mess with the basic mechanics like game-length and removing relegation - which it seems the broadcasters are killing as an option as they would view no relegation as a breach of the broadcasting contract as the league would not be delivering the product agreed.

There is a list of the neutral venues doing the rounds. Molineux isn't on it. Brighton's ground is. Of course Brighton themselves wouldn't be able to play at the Amex as it wouldn't then be a neutral venue.

Not seen the list but the neutral grounds are supposed to be outside of areas which have had the worst levels of the virus so presumably that rules out Manchester, Liverpool, London and the West Mids

Stadiums are supposed to be clear of residential areas so Etihad, Old Trafford, Leicester, Villa Park, Emirates, London Stadium, Amex and St Mary’s.
Villa Park and Leicester aren’t to far from any residents at all so that seems a bit odd.

Shortened halves is strictly a PFA suggestion, the PL says it is not on the table.

Fewer injuries, I'd imagine is the rationale.

Why are injuries more of an issue now than during a normal season? Unless they are assuming that many players will contract CV, and if they are then they shouldn't be playing the games at all.

Probably because they are going to be playing more games in a shorter period of time.

You also want to minimise the amount of people who might need a hospital trip at the moment.

Which is another reason why they shouldn't be playing. As said, if we can't play 90 minute games and there is no relegation, what is the point?

I'm sure others have made the point but if we're looking at a period of time with no supporters it's the perfect opportunity to do work on the ground....except for the looming recession though

Planning permission is in for the South Bank Steve Bull corner to put a temp stand in there. Supposed to happening in the summer.

If next season is looking like no fans at all and the cash is there it would be a no brainer to get the Steve Bull demolished and work at least started on the replacement.

Only reason to remove relegation is if they void the season which would be terrible. If games do get played there will be relegation - no point in playing them if not so not sure what Sky are bothered about. We were told you had to play the whole season with the same rules hence VAR was kept despite being shit yet neutral stadia is now a possibility. Liverpool deserve the title and with over 3/4 of the season played PPG with relegation seems a reasonable way of ending it if there is no alternative.

I'd like to think they'd have used grounds with hotels built into them like MK Dons or Bolton.
