Wolves / Covid-19

We're back a week on Monday and work have sent a few masks out. Got some black ones, sans Wolves logo.

Brighton have objected to the neutral grounds proposal even though they know it's the only way to season can be completed. You can guarantee that West Ham will join them. Matt Lawton is reporting that the PL will drop their 14 club in agreement voting rule and seek 100% agreement. So unless the neutral grounds was a misnomer or the PL go back to their usual rules re voting or bully the rebels then it's not going to happen

I hope the PL show some leadership and tell Brighton, Villa and West Ham to fuck off.

I don't think Villa are objecting so much as they are still vulnerable. If there is relegation they go down whether its ppg or as the table stood. Only a voided season saves them, so I guess they are waiting to know what the alternative is.

WHU have wanted the season voided from the beginning. They're arseholes and Brighton are clearly in that bracket too.

On the one hand they are a bunch of disengenious, opportunistic cunts. On the other they have seen a way to protect their business from losing tens of millions of pounds, so is the smart thing to do just looking at it through that lens. They'll be a lot better off losing the remainder of the PL money for this season than not getting it in the Championship the next. The PL should force them to forfeit the games if 14 teams are in favour of playing

Hopefully it’s so transparent what they are doing they are told to fuck off.

Home games are a massive advantage, particularly for a team like Brighton and Villa. But teams throughout the league will feel losing home advantage is a shitter but will still want to play. Sheff Utd got a lot big games at home they now can’t play which has a strong chance of undoing all their hard work. But I’m sure they’d rather play the games still.

If you remember I posted Brighton's run in when they came to us, in their final 9 they play something like 5 of the top ten including Liverpool and City back to back.

That they're leading the charge on this is their fear they have by far the hardest run in. Shithouses.

Paul Barber arguing its not fair because they won’t have fans in for the home games. Complete Trollope for starters it’ll benefit you in your scheduled away games. Plus the majority of the time teams are fighting relegation is because they’re so bad away from home.
It’s self saving tactics hidden behind “things are more important than football” if it’s not safe and fair in June it ain’t going to be in September.
Likes of WHU & BHA are very keen to void now but get started up in September, sorry that’s simply not going to happen.

The whole argument around home advantage is bollocks if the games are behind closed doors anyway, atmosphere makes by far the highest impact there and it'll be non-existent wherever they play.

Pitches will be a bit different in their dimensions and their preparation but for the most part it makes little difference playing in an empty Anfield or empty Molineux.

Basically what Brighton are saying is they don’t to start until things are almost the same as they were when it stopped 8 weeks ago.
Well if that’s the case don’t expect any football until Xmas plus the scrapping of the 20/21 season.
Also means hardly any income for 9 months for most clubs.
What they’ll say is it should be voided due to exceptional circumstances, ok then what’s your problem playing at neutral venues considering it’s exceptional circumstances.
Pretty sure the PL will tell them to get on with it end of.

Rumour has it I hence the word rumour that the bottom 6 have agreed to try and block project restart, just needs one other club to side with them. Not sure about that to be fair I know Villa and Norwich are keen to play again as they know they’ll be screwed if it’s calculated by sporting merit.

The way to fight that is stating it’s project restart or PPG. Villa will suddenly become intensely keen to resume. Brighton and West Ham are being so fucking transparent. Whatever resumption there is I hope they both go down.

so the bottom teams now happy to play out the season as long as no relegation !!! WTF !!! I guess the powers that be will see this as an easy way out with no conflict.

Apart from Euro places and with Liverpool almost home and dry there's little point playing out the season if relegation is no longer an issue. Its nonsense, they were the rules we began with, they're the rules we should finish with. I'm pretty sure the TV companies and sponsors would have something to say anyway as it would very much dampen the interest in their product

From the Athletic

Wolves are set to return to training next Monday with head coach Nuno Espirito Santo and several players due to fly back to England this weekend, The Athletic understands.

Nuno and players such as Joao Moutinho, Ruben Neves and Ruben Vinagre have been at home with their families in Portugal but will return to Wolverhampton ahead of a pre-season-style training schedule starting next Monday.

The players will appear at Compton Park at staggered times and, initially, the focus will be on physical conditioning on an individual basis. They’ve been asked to drive to the training ground in their full kit — and wash it themselves afterwards.

Every player will be tested for coronavirus on Monday, as will Nuno and the staff although it’s anticipated not many staff will be present to keep numbers at a minimum and adhere to all social distancing guidelines.

Players will also undergo physical tests akin to the ones they have at the start of pre-season training. By Monday more than eight weeks will have passed since their last match, a 1-1 draw at Olympiakos on March 12. That’s the longest break many of them have had without regular football or proper training since their professional careers began.

The squad were informed of the latest developments by Nuno on Friday night during a Zoom call. It’s believed there was unanimous approval from the players to start training again. The close-knit group are even said to have been missing each other’s company.

The plan is for a week of physical conditioning, before potentially training together in small groups a week later, again while still keeping distance between the players.

There are no plans to make the players wear protective masks. Non-football staff, such as those from the Wolves Foundation, have been wearing them when out in the community. Wolves-branded masks have been mass-produced in China and are now on sale via the club’s online shop.

Wolves are confident they’ve done all they can to help their players through the last two months. Off the field, they’ve been one of the most proactive and generous clubs in the country during the pandemic. All staff are still working full-time and being paid 100 per cent of their wages, with no plans to furlough anyone. Some staff from quieter departments, such as retail or the ticket office, have been redeployed in the considerable charitable effort undertaken by the club.

Wolves, on executive chairman Jeff Shi’s orders, were the first Premier League club to send their staff and players home, with the chairman knowing what was coming having closely followed the impact the virus had in his native China. Staff at Wolves have been hugely impressed with Shi’s proactive leadership.

Current and former players have raised more than £300,000 in money and equipment, both in Wolverhampton and in Portugal, while one staff member told The Athletic that Fosun’s global COVID-19 relief campaign was nothing short of “staggering”.

It comes with the Premier League still looking into ways to return to football through “Project Restart”, which has left some players, coaches and staff at clubs divided over how this might happen.

The Government is reviewing the lockdown restrictions this Thursday, while the Premier League has been given until May 25 to update UEFA on how they plan to fulfil the remaining matches in the calendar.

A restart on June 12, with a finish at the end of July, has been suggested. For that to be feasible, clubs would need to begin full training in two weeks’ time.

J: “I’d not thought of it that way. I’d assumed it would be shut down until the new year or longer, until there’s a vaccine, maybe.”

PX: “It probably should be. But money talks doesn’t it? And I don’t trust the government to do what’s right. They’ll have the club chairmen, the broadcast bosses and owners in their ears. All the big wigs. We’ve got one of the worst death rates in Europe, that’s all the proof you need that our government fucked up, so you can be pretty sure they’ll fuck it up again, this time over football. They’re not suddenly get any good, are they? And have you seen one of the ministers who’ll make the decision on football? I looked him up. Oliver Dowden he’s called. He doesn’t even understand how the football business works.”
