Wolves / Covid-19

Anyone who thinks there will be widespread turning up outside ground from fans is deluded and probably been brain washed by the anti football fan right wing media for too long. You'd think on a football fans forum we might be immune to the usual 'football fans are sub standard members of society' beliefs but seems not.

No the majority of fans will follow the advice/guidelines like I'm sure we all have been already!

If a few idiots start to turn up then the police could/should deal with that in the same way they should be doing with regard to any small flouting of the laws that's been happening.

WTF are you on ??? Have you ever met ...........people ? The police have to keep regularly clearing 100s of people from Marquis drive and they're just dog walkers, but football fans have a more laissez faire attitude dont they ?

Its an obvious concern, especially when fan in Valencia and Paris did exactly this. I don't expect thousands to turn up but those in charge of getting football back on would be idiots not to look at what could happen and how to handle it.

MOST people have been following simple instructions, don't let a few over shared photos/posts on social media (then picked up on by the press) make you think differently.

Only takes a small group of fans turning up at each ground for Nationwide attention and the Government to shut it down on Police advice.

I wasn't calling football fans substandard members of society, that's quite the jump to a conclusion there....

We have seen families and groups of kids flaunting the social distancing rules so there's nothing to suggest anything will change when it comes to football.

People won’t congregate for run of the mill fixtures, pivotal deciding matches yes.

I think you'll be surprised at how stupid people can be. They congregate round the gates of football training grounds on transfer deadline day.

People are idiots.

Well Liverpool's first game could decide the title, so loads will probably turn up around Anfield regardless.

Like they've shut down westminster bridge etc? Oh wait they haven't.

No if a small number of idiots do turn up at grounds (I very much still doubt they will in most cases a couple of exceptions obviously), the police/authorities will/should police it properly within the new powers they've been given as they are for the most part doing with the very small number of people flaunting the rules.

I could see people going for a bit of a jolly around Anfield if/when they win the title, people are going to get swept up in the moment and do daft stuff, but whilst the games are on surely they're more likely to congregate in smaller groups around different houses if anything? Why go and stand on the street around a football ground, ones that they might not even be playing in at the time depending on how they set it all up, when it's on TV to watch?

If they go for neutral grounds or a centralised place to play the games then vast majority of people aren't going to be so stupid as to get in the car and travel half way across the country just to be near something that's happening when they can't watch it but could if they stayed at home in front of the TV.

Of course I've met people and the majority of people are abiding by the rules (government themselves estimate over 95% and are said to be happy with the nations response to the lockdown) and I don't get in some hissy fit just because I see a few photos/videos shared of the proportionately TINY amount of people who are not.

Your faith in human kind and the people of this country and football supporters (despite supposedly being one yourself) is massively askew.

So what the fuck (can we speak English here no need for the silly acronyms its not MSN chat circa 1999) are you on to make you so hysterical?

Of course its a concern and I'm sure they will and should have plans in place to handle it but I reiterate absolutely no chance fans gather outside games on a widespread scale.

Oh I don’t think it will be every club every game. It’s more a question of whether an early incident of failure to social distance were to chill the enthusiasm for the restart from government. And the pivotal moment of Liverpool winning the title mathematically is likely to occur in the first round of matches so that will be an early test. Their fans can’t celebrate together and can’t watch in the pub so standing outside the kop and letting off flares and things will seem a good idea to a few. Every club has idiots.

Would one such incident result in the police/government taking action (ie halting these behind doors games) though?

I very much doubt it. They've not stopped the Thursday claps after 2 (at least) such incidents on Westminster Bridge etc, they've not changed the rules on walking/daily exercise after it was shown a small minority weren't abiding by the rules. Because thankfully they do seem to understand that while these might be headline grabbing cases (cuz everyones overshared photos on facebook) they don't represent the massive majority whom are staying at home/abiding by the rules.

I have no doubt that if the a few idiots do gather the social media witch hunt brigade and in turn the rag media will jump on it like they did with the above (probably even more cuz its football fans) but I'd like to think the police/government etc would remain sensible as they have done with the other cases and there'd be no knee jerk reaction.

I honestly don’t know.

Points in favour are that the Prime Minister wants football back as a boost to the morale of the nation so he hopefully wouldn’t have to trash it after one incident.

Point against would be that such an incident would inevitably get a lot of publicity and the concern is that it might be seen as encouraging people to break the lockdown and therefore stamping it out would be necessary to prevent further abuse.

I agree that they don’t seem to be doing anything about Westminster Bridge, which incidentally appears to be far more “look at me” than “thank you NHS”, but a problem surrounding football will get a load more column inches than it will deserve.

which incidentally appears to be far more “look at me” than “thank you NHS”, .

Man I could moan for ever about this but I will state the amount of fucking hypocrites doing this - inc my neighbour who has had family BBQ's, get togethers and many visitors yet has covered her car in Thank You NHS stickers and leads the street every week to make sure we all clap. Fuck off.

I think the fans in general will realise that if they congregate around the ground while the game is being played they will see fuck all, if they stay at home they be able to watch it.

It will be post match and as I said the Liverpool winning the title is the first one that will be a concern as a first title in thirty years is going to be something they will want to celebrate, and doing so around Anfield will seem communal. Pretty sure there would be a police presence in surrounding streets to discourage that one.

After that, the next most likely issues are around Leicester making the Champions League, and ourselves and Sheffield United if we get into Europe (or indeed if we won the Europa whenever that were to be played) and also whichever team manages to survive at the bottom.

I doubt you'd get that much reaction to us qualifying for Europe. We've already done it once. Ditto Leicester with the CL, been there, won the whole league not long ago.

If the Europa League does actually get restarted at some point then you won't be having the final until August I think, by that point *some* restrictions may have been lifted (not enough to actually open up stadiums though).
