Wolves 2-2 Newcastle Utd: Verdict Thread

Pretty sure this is the Thommo up front game. 17 March 1992 at Ashton Gate.

--------------Stowell---------------

Ashley----Madden---Mountfield---Venus

Birch----Bennett------Cook------Dennison

-----------Thompson---Bull--------------

We lost, amazingly enough.

We also played Rankine up front at Notts County in 1994.

Bloody hell remember that week I think we played them on the Saturday at Molineux in a drab 1-1 draw followed by that debacle.

Yeah, McGhee did that for about four games at the start of that season IIRC.

(any minute now, Deutsch will be along to tell me it was five... 🤣)
I wouldn't mind him changing it from an obviously rubbish idea but I think it was to bring in bloody Ferguson and then Blobin van der Laan FFS. I'd rather have left it.

Lawrie fucking Madden, there have been worse Wolves players but none slower. Ever.

I’ve got it in my head that we had Thompson up front with Neil Emblen during an injury crisis?

Didn't we also stick Neil Emblen up front as well for a couple of games around that time.

Nah, this never happened.

Taylor and McGhee never put Thommo up front and Emblen didn't play under Turner.

Gorkss (sp?) played like the pitch was covered in molasses.

Newcastle fan here and not on the wind up or owt.

First things first, that was as soft a penalty as I've seen in ages. Was fully expecting the VAR to reverse the on field decision, but apparently it falls into not being a "Clear and obvious error". If it wasn't given by the referee, it wouldn't have been reversed by VAR either.

Thought it was a game where we looked exhausted and threadbare. We had 6 players who can play fullback and 2 goalkeepers on the bench. 0 strikers and only Joe Willock who can be considered an attacking threat. Trippier had a poor game by his standard. Neto had a great game until his unfortunate injury, Limited Gordon's threat as he was often having to help Burn out at the back.

You're in good form and we're paying the price for trying to compete in 4 competitions with fuck all squad depth. Barnes, Botman, Isak, Murphy, Tonali, all injured and we probably not see any of them back before Christmas. Reckon we'll see more games like this where we'll labour against any team that aren't Bournemouth, Burnley, Luton or Sheffield.

Good luck for the rest of the season and if you want any pub advice for the return fixture, let me know.

If he gives a pen there, doesn't he then have to give a red as there was no attempt to play the ball..?
So not only a bad decision, but getting the guidelines wrong?

Shades of Berra in 2012/2013 IIRC. Forget who against.
