Wolves 0 - Sunderland 0 A disappointing verdict thread

Just in case that got overlooked.

Should really have quoted it 7 times, not 6.

Haven't read much about the game so I may be wrong, however it seemed we have played well without a cutting edge. These things happen. Monday we weren't great but we won, today we better but only got a draw. It's another point towards the aim of promotion, if we had been offered 48 points at this stage of the season everyone would have taken it. Onto next Friday.

Don’t think we played well, more so Sunderland had no interest in playing which made it a very one sided game more akin to attack v defence where we didn’t show sufficient variety in our play to unsettle a very rigid back 9 employed by Sunderland. Credit Sunderland for their discipline but we kept asking the same question hoping for a different answer.

I’d have stuck Bolt up front and launched balls in from deep just to mix it up a bit, instead we just played in front of their two defensive lines.

It was a pretty horrible game to watch.

Some little twerp puked all over the back of 3 of us in our row. Then basically ran off and didn't even inform us. My dad sort of felt a splatter on him.

Bet you've never had that! Ha :adolf:

After a night's consideration on the subs, I'd have switched Cav up front and bought Leo (just wasn't his day) off for Costa, and also put Vinagre on for Douglas. We needed some extra pace and trickery to test their back line and those switches would have done that. Douglas in particular needs to get forward more in these games and occupy the defence more to give the likes of Leo a bit more space to work in. Compared to Doherty he sits back too much when we need to attack.

Agree with some of this, when Douglas was subbed I thought it would be Vinagre coming on as I think he's better at running at defences, also I would have put Bright on for Leo, I know he can be frustrating but taking on and committing defenders in and around the box might have created summat

Yeah Bright would also have been made a bit later on near the end for me. Probably for Cav if his 15 min cameo up front wasn't working out.

LOL fucking hell Last year a guy in his 50's with a big gob threw all his beer up like a pussy
in front of his 20yr old son (who been drinking with him) #dadlegendfail

Don't agree with all the praise being heaped on Neves for yesterday's performance. Maybe churlish criticising the guy after a stunning season so far but I felt he slowed the game down too much. He really needed to push forward and have been more direct when the opportunities arose. First half all a little but predictable even though Sunderland were standing off him whilst getting everyone behind the ball. Maybe Coleman had decided that was the game plan but it certainly worked. All a little too laborious.

Even corners were predictable - finally teams have worked out Boly ambles forward before making a last minute break into the box, some fresh ideas are in order.

Disagree with this, he did give the ball away a few times, once when he got the ball tangled in his feet but apart from that thought he tried everything, he spent most of the match camped just outside their 18 yard box and tried spreading it wide, down the channels, sliding it through the middle and dinking it over the top, just didn't come off on the day.....he had couple of wild shots which was just down to frustration.......it will almost certainly happen again in the future but if we keep playing as we are, all will be fine

Good read that
When Sais flicked at it I didn't know that that was on target.
When we brought N'Diaye on I assumed to have a run at them but noticed we wouldn't pass to him, there was also about 10 mins where Cav didn't seem to want to pass to Jota either. I would have put Bright (not Costa) on and told him to run at em.(this was so set up for him at 60mins)
It's so harsh to say I know, but for all Doherty's improvements his final ball just aint good enough I would rather he took on the defenders more. I think that if we had tried to carry the ball into the box a penalty would be conceded.
Obviously this is all easy for me to say but I would have used Bright, Vinagre and N'diaye as subs for Leo, Baz and Sais and throw the kitchen sink at em all of these can run at the defence and with Jota and Cav sniffing around as well and Doc. Ok they may break and score but Im comfortable with our points -1 at this stage.
Probably why I ain't a manager :)

Good read Dan - summed up the game beautifully

Commented on the Saiss save from the Douglas shot though at the time wasn't entirely sure it was on target as Burrows is not always noted for accuracy

One of those games that 1 goal for us would have opened floodgates.

Bennett should have been sacrificed once it was clear that Sunderland were going to play the whole game in their half of the field & was a time for Bright who can be frustrating, but will do things no one predicts or expects which is what this game needed

As disappointing as the result yesterday was, if after QPR we’d have been offered 6 wins and 1 draw from the next seven games we’d have all been delighted. We rode our luck at Reading and probably didn’t deserve all three points there so these things do even themselves out.

Sheffield Wednesday will have to come out at us on Friday as Carvahal needs a result so that should suit us.

This result whilst being disappointing is not really a worry (QPR was more so)

Just gives Nuno another problem to resolve - don't have any worries that he will not find a way to do so

Still on av of 2.29 points per game which will equate to 105 for the season & we are likely to fill in gaps in the Jan window

You put this in the Doherty section:

When you’re up against a team that are playing a genuine back five and a midfield with virtually no attacking intent in front of them, our formation requires the wingbacks to play a key role in stretching the play and providing good service from out wide.

And then went on to criticise his end product. Yet Douglas' report had no mention that he barely attacked Sunderland's back line in comparison and his delivery into the box was also poor yesterday.

Doc had a much better game than Douglas.
