Wolves 0 - Sunderland 0 A disappointing verdict thread

A slight tactical misstep towards the end was the manner in which Bennett kept finding himself as the free man/pivot through which attacks down the right were being led. He’s clearly too limited to do what Boly does. I’d have been tempted to swap him with Coady for the final ten.

We were too wasteful in the final third today. That was the difference between a 1 or 2 nil win and a 0-0. They came for 0-0 and got it, which is fair enough, but all down to our profligacy than anything else.

Far too many crosses which never went to a Wolves player or shots over the bar. Only the final 15 mins did we anywhere near threaten enough and start troubling the keeper.

After 30 mins of the first half I said it would be a frustrating day and would likely come down to one or two chances. Leo had that chance at the end of the first half and missed his shot.

Big credit to Sunderland fans for coming all that way to look at a bus. Took a chap in my mates (who couldn't attend) place, told him he's a Jonah and is never coming with us again so its OK it won't happen again sorry.
Before the kick off I said to him see the number 3 with the gloves on thats the scottish bloke, see the number 2 with the gloves on thats an Irish man, see no 18 with short sleeves and no gloves he's one of them Portugese whos scared of the cold.
No problem with this, its gonna happen, thought Diogo was constantly pushed and kicked, Cav wasn't at his best sometimes a little selfish. TBH I thought we would bring on Bright and let him run at their defenders but Nuno knows best.

Just not quite at our usual standard and they were determined and well organised.

I actually believe Jota should have had a pen second half and if he had gone down he would have got it. Like someone intimated 9 out of 10 we'd win this but fair play. It is a tough league lets not forget.

I too though it was a game screaming out for Bright to come on and beat one or two players to make the difference.

First time a team has put 10 men behind the ball and got a result this year, I'm not too bothered as 9/10 they won't get away with it, although credit to Sunderland they fully deserved their point.

I don't agree that Neves was our best player, to do so you have to overlook what must have been 6/7 pot shots when other players were in better positions, some of which would have made Freddy blush. Cav's final ball was poor as was Bonatini's finishing on what was our best chance of the game.

Just not our day, at one point even Big Willy got done. Costa worries me, twice in the last few minutes he gave up responsibility for getting the ball in the box, giving it to Bennett to aimlessly lob it in on both occasions.

For games like this it might work better to have Miranda instead of Bennett so he can bring the ball out like Boly does. Sounds like we needed a bit of magic today which didn’t happen

One of those days.

Nuno needs to find a way of unlocking teams who set up that negatively, because others will be looking at the result today and doing exactly the same.

Hugely frustrating afternoon, we played some decent stuff in spells Neves with some fantastic passes but overall our passing was too slow and often behind its receiver, Cav was back to some of his last seasons performances although there wasn't much movement in front of him, tbf Sunderland came with a gameplan and executed it perfectly and defended really well, we know we aren't gunna win every game and this was one where parking the bus worked. Nuno doesn't seem to be keen on a plan B so we need to make sure plan A works better

Jesus - it's sackcloth and ashes on the dark side. Unbelievable.
Told some bloke at the end booing whilst dragging his kids out of the ground not to fucking bother coming again if it’s that shit. Moron.

At the start of the season a blip meant a defeat, now a blip means a draw.

That's progress!!

Was disappointed for a bit but even if you’d asked me before the last international break we’d be 8 points clear of 3rd before we played Sheff Weds I’d have snapped your hand off.

We will get plenty more of those games and we have had others already that we have won. We won't win and we won't play well every game. Sunderland barely got over the half way line which shows how much they feared us.

It's another point in the bag and we move on, some of the supposedly tougher games will see teams coming out and attacking us and we will start banging them in again.

Table still looks great roll on the next one.

It was just one of those days but I wished we had run at them some more - I'm sure some of their defenders would of stuck out a leg in the box in sheer panic.
We needed to be a bit clever today but too many were not on their A game.

Not to worry. As wise old Mick often stated - Every point is a prisoner!

We cannot win every game, and have no right to. Apparently Sunderland worked their socks off today and got what they came for. Fair play to them and I wish them well, but Wolves will only get better as a consequence of this surprising result.

Agree there frank - we’re never going to win every game, all we can do is keep playing well and results will generally be good. The championships a tough league so we can’t complain about a draw at the end of six wins in a row.

Sunderland rocked up with a very defensive game plan and executed it pretty well. Aided by a lack of tempo from Wolves plus the front Wolves 3 having an off game.

I also felt Nuno made a couple of errors, Miranda instead of Bennett as Sunderland were never likely to be overly attacking so Miranda's ability of th ball may have aided us. I also didn't feel Nuno's subs were right, or made at the right time.

However, Neves played some exceptional football and Wolves will learn and move on from the result. 7 unbeaten is a positive!

We've been spoiled so far this season but we weren't really at it today. Sunderland came with a plan to defend very deep and they executed it but i imagine Nuno and the players will be unhappy with how we went about trying to break them down. We didn't move the ball quick enough, we crossed the ball far too often aimlessly, Jota and Cav didn't get close enough to Bonatini and then the subs in the second half were clearly wrong but it's going to happen, Nuno has barely got anything wrong since the Sheff Utd game.

On the subs in the second half, Costa doesn't look fit again which is a worry. He was holding his ankle on Monday when he was pretty poor and again today he held his ankle after a poor cross. No idea whether that's the ankle he hurt but it doesn't look great. Hopefully it's nothing but he's gone back to the Costa before the Reading game in his last 2 appearances. Costa coming on meant Cav went to a sort of left wing back position and i think we lost something with that and no natural left foot down that side. The N'Diaye sub didn't work either, he had no effect on the game and at that point i think Saiss was still the better option in the midfield and we could have taken off a centre back and put someone up and closer to Leo.

However like i said, while we can nit pick we have been spoiled this season as we have been excellent and more often than not got the result we wanted. We are still top and well clear of the teams in the play offs and i'm sure we will be back on it Friday night. One thing i will add is i hope the atmosphere is much better Friday, i think it was poor at Blues and was again today with far too many expecting us to win and far too quick to moan and groan when a pass isn't quite. Nuno has also made a comment about this and i agree with him.
