Welcome to Wolves Rui Patricio

Bruno de Carvalho was arrested today, alongside the Juve Leo's leader, the supporters' group who perpetrated the attack on the Sporting's academy / training compound.

Sounds as if we really could have gotten him for free, without paying the 18M fee.

Yeah, I was thinking that too

But at least we'll maintain relationships and let's not forget that Mendes gets paid too :)

Don't think most Sporting fans would be happy with any of their presidents making a deal with Wolves. Lots of them are still bitter as hell.

Ok we are a third of the way through the season and its probably the best place to raise my slight concerns about Rui on his welcome thread. There is no doubt that he is a quality goalkeeper but he is being beaten from distance with worrying regularity. I highlight bthis as we used to give Ikeme stick for the saem thing and I think you wou;ld all agree that on paper Rui is a significant upgrade on our Carl.

Off the top of my head

Leicester- Outside the box- low to the left
Watford- Oustide the box- low to the right- never moved/ wrong footed
Arsenal- outside the box- crept inside the left hand post
Huddersfield- Free kick, outside the box , low to the left,

We have conceded 15 goals this season and 4 have come from distance. Is that high? I think so. Particularly if you are [utting him in the world class bracket . Sure he has made some great saves But I want this record to improve and quickly.

I wouldn't blame him at all for Arsenal. Leicester, there was a worldy possible, but still wouldn't blame him. Watford and Huddersfield are on him though. He has also made some world class saves you wouldn't expect him to make.

My issue is with his kicking, it's awful, Murray levels of awful and ends up in the opposition having possession 80% of the time.

Leicester's was deflected and he stood no chance.

Out of the 4 highlighted. 2 are on him.

To blame him for the Arsenal and Leicester goals is stupid. Not going to have that debate again though

Watford goal - No idea what happened really. It was a sweet strike and no idea if he just didn't see it or anticipate the shot but still expect him to save it. Huddersfield, he did the hard work and got over to the shot and got a hand on it so that should be staying out. Guess he just wanted to join the rest of the team in making shit errors. No one likes being the odd one out.

His kicking is becoming a major problem. Both accuracy and distance are awful, if it comes to him on his right then it's a disaster waiting to happen.

He should surely be able to sort this out to an acceptable standard. I'm not asking him to become Ederson overnight, just reach the halfway line more often than not. It's not like he's Andy Lonergan where I would have zero faith in him improving even if he practiced for hours on end every single day.

Agreed. I'm not expecting a playmaker but we concede possession with almost every kick he takes and he seems incapable of sending it anywhere but to Doherty. For a keeper of his pedigree it isn't good enough.

He never was famous for his kicks. Always been a major issue and he has gotten better at them in the last couple years.

He's also stopped coming for crosses and there's no commanding of his box whatsoever in the last few weeks

I thought he controlled his area really well today. Made a couple of good contested catches look simple.

He’s only really had one game where he looked shaky commanding his area - Cardiff away which was probably a shock to the system for him!

Yesterday he was excellent claiming crosses and quickly starting counter attacks.

His kicking is just weird. Anything over 20/30 yards is a real struggle in terms of playing accurate passes. But then at the end of the game he opened up his body and sprayed a 50 yard pass right to Vinagre’s feet! Definitely a weakness in his game

His distribution from his hands though is great. Think about the 3 or 4 times he took a ball out the air today and then within a step of landing had the ball on its way to Vinagre.

I thought he was good today. If I was nuno I'd be telling him to come for less crosses against a side with a target man anyway. Let Boly and Bennett deal with the physical side and keep the keeper uninhibited away from the crap.

The kicking to Doherty is an instruction. Ruddy's kicks always went to the wing backs but after selling Douglas it has become all kicks go to the right hand side

Doherty is really good in the air for that position, so he wins the majority of his challenges from those kicks, and generally finds one of ours with it too.

Because we do it all the time, Cardiff started moving one of their big lumps over there ready for it, but fortunately the tactical genius Rafa didn’t.

It isn't just the ones that he wins though, even when he doesn't win the header a high % of balls end up being a throw in for Wolves and we get back possession on the halfway line.
