Welcome to Wolves Rui Patricio

I have been going to Portugal for years and still can barely understand a word of it. Written down, many words are similar to Italian and Spanish but spoken it is totally different. As DW says, it is not a nice language to listen to

Any idea how good his English is? It might be ok but he’s not good Enough to hold an interview? Neves was a bit shit at first but he was able to give it a go, however now It is pretty good.

Pretty important for a keeper two have decent communication

Some people aren't confident giving an interview until they are fully comfortable in the language. Pochettino and Ranieri weren't. Rafa Mir still doesn't speak very good English by all accounts but he is trying.

I can understand enough Italian, Dutch and Danish to get by, if you asked me to send a basic email to someone in one of those languages I could probably do it (if I had enough time to check everything and look stuff up), no way would I or could I try to hold a conversation on camera with someone.

Whereas German makes no difference to me, I'm a touch off my peak as I don't use it too much now and haven't done for a while, but I'm fluent and I could just go with it.

Nuno insists on English in training and in the dressing room so he will learn.

A native Spanish-speaking friend of mine says that to Spanish ears Portuguese sounds like "Spanish spoken by a drunk Russian".
Pretty good description, always sounds a very harsh accent compared to their neighbours, much more Eastern European sound to it.

I get the feeling they didn’t have the bottle to ask him to record a “wolves ay we” video.

I quite enjoy the sound of Portuguese but looks like I'm alone here

Portuguese is bloody awful (sorry Joel). Very ugly language.

Should I be looking to change forums?

No problem at all, but most of the harshness you guys seem to be noticing from Rui is due to his own voice and accent. He seems to be talking outwards, but to himself. Like he's mumbling. It's weird.

In this thread: Folk from the black country moaning about accents!!

To touch on a point that was mentioned earlier in the thread but not really discussed - I hope Wolves have organised some English lessons for him. Out of all of the positions where you need to be clear and precise - goalkeeper is top.

He won't struggle on a day to day basis, due to the number of Portugese players & staff that we have at the club - but he does need to be learning even the most basic aspects of English sooner rather than later (and I'm sure he will).

I hope Wolves have organised some English lessons for him..

He will 100% have English lessons.

Both from a tutor and then picking up on how the local players speak and followed by not having a fucking clue what Coady is shouting at him

Coming over here, stealing John Ruddy's job and can't even speak the lingo. When we will close our fucking borders to these leeches????!

He'll be keeping England's number 1 Will Norris out of the side too. The bastard.
