Welcome to Wolves Angel Gomes

Flipping a player like we did with Afobe only works if the player is obligated to sign and has to do so to get to the club they want to. Gomes can cut us out of any deal and there’ll be nothing we can do about it.

Signing on fees are paid in instalments over the duration of the contract

Like Tammy Abraham four days ago?

It happens. And it is free money to the player to do so, whether in instalments or up front. The agent fee involved will also pique interest of whichever parasite represents the player. It is an incentive. It isn't a certainty, i admit.

Abraham triggered option to buy clause so totally different situation.

It really isn't
It is. Abraham couldn’t have moved to Villa without Besiktas’ agreement as they had a watertight option to sign him. If LL is correct we don’t have a watertight option on Angel, it would require his agreement.

Putting the nuance (important as it is) to one side… So is this an actual example of that mooted ‘player who wants to take a chance on guaranteed game time for potential
WC selection’. Sounded completely improbable in reality, but maybe? I don’t follow England so have no idea, but guess it’s unlikely as Tuchel is not and does not need to consider him? Guess I’m looking for some kind of logic in why the hell he’s come to Wolves.

Shop window. He’s been in the bench for a few weeks at Marseille. Come to Wolves and play well and show that his small stature isn’t a barrier to succeeding in the PL and he’ll have a few options come the summer.

Even given the limitations of recruitment mindsets (see JSL) around the game, surely he was prominent enough at OM to attract attention at these prices? Still don’t get it. My understanding (could be faulty) was that he played a fair bit?

If we were aware of his availability it’s hard to believe other PL clubs weren’t but he signed for us. Who knows why that is the case and I’m speculating that his small stature may have put others off. Whilst we’ve agreed a fee should we want to sign him it’s reported that the player is not obligated to sign like in many deals. That being the case he’s got 14 games to show other PL teams what he can offer. He’ll get far more exposure playing at Wolves than sat on the bench at OM.

And we have the ability to entice him with incentives which is what I have been saying. If you think that isn't being discussed during his loan period then I don't know what to say to that.

Of course we do but any incentive is likely to pale into insignificance when compared to PL football. You suggested he could get two signing on fees for a flip and that won’t happen as he can cut us out of that kind of deal.

His England caps came under Carsley who wanted to fill the squad with players who he knew from the younger age groups. I don't think he's on Tuchel's radar. I don't know why he didn't have offers from higher up the league, unless there's something in the height thing.

Well the best player I’ve ever seen live, Juninho first spell, was 3cm shorter still, so here’s hoping he’s got a little of the same capacity.
