Welcome to Wolves Rui Patricio

Quite often in general play that ball isn't on though when it goes back to the keeper. So we give it away, sometimes in quite a dangerous area as Rui has been known to fail to even clear 30 yards on occasion.

We are also terrible at attacking throw ins too - embarrassingly so, I'd say 9 out of every 10 of our throws in the opponents half end up giving possession away (Ryan Delap aside)

If we manage to maintain possession and get it back to Boly we’ve done well. We may as well start lumping it in the box. Might get a corner or get to recycle possession from the edge of the area.

what's the tldr translation on that?

They're citing Wolves official channels, so I didn't bother translating, sorry!

Basically, Patrício seems to be very happy here. Praises the Premier League and states that he has learned a lot since coming here. Regarding the team, just says that they're focused in improving from game to game and fighting for the best table finisher possible. :)

It auto-translates in Chrome mobile browser. At least it does on mine.

I don't understand how somebody can be surrounded by footballs and coaches every single day for twenty years and be incapable of clearing the half way line. I don't expect him to be Ederson, but fuck me.

He was never very good with his feet. He is a lot better now, so you can see how he was!

I think Patricio has been good, but not as good as I was expecting.

He has pulled off some worldy saves but let in some I would expect him to do better with.

Then there is the kicking....

We've got one of the best goalkeepers in the league IMO. He has earned us several points.

His only real weakness is his kicking which as Kenny will tell you, is slightly over-exaggerated anyway. He had a real dodgy patch with his kicking but has come through that. I also don't think Nuno is that bothered by it as we are not a team who rely on the keeper's distribution like say, Spurs, City or Liverpool do.

There's also the 'command of the box' and coming to claim high balls which he isn't great at.

Simply the best keeper I have seen in terms of speed of thought and anticipation. He cuts out a load of work for himself with his reading of the game. This cuts out a lot of the need to make a save, simple or not. He has let in a couple he should save but go across every keeper in this devision, especially ones that cost £60m+ or valued at that amount and they will have conceded 3 or 4 each they should be saving.

His kicking is shit but it is clear that at no point in his career has it been needed or worked on. It has improved throughout the season and at times he shows he can ping a ball like Neves (others like someone with their feet sewn on backwards mind) and there has been a change in the tactic on kicking since Dendoncker came into the team and gave us an option other than Doc

Seriously? One of the first things I noticed when we signed him is how cleanly he collects crosses. His technique is brilliant, he very rarely fumbles them. Edit: and as Kenny says, he does a lot of his work early to give him less to do.

'Command of the box' is basically people expecting him to play like Murray. Which keepers actually play like that these days? Ederson maybe? Patricio isn't world class but he is about as close as we are going to get at the moment.

In fact I would argue we have the fourth/fifth best keeper after Ederson, Allison, De Gea and then maybe Lloris (who has his dodgy games in the past couple of years)

We were spoilt with Murray but lets not forget he spilled a high number of balls when coming for crosses no other keeper would but as the defence knew he was coming they would cover the areas he left. With Rui, he commands the box in terms of being vocal and directing his defence and he will come for crosses under pressure, like he did v Chelsea on Sunday but he won't go for a ball where 2 or 3 defenders are between him and the ball, he will view that as high risk. Only time he has really let us down with his command of the area was at Cardiff where he let Paterson bully him and gave up on the ball

I'd say he's better than Lloris, but putting him ahead of De Gea is a bit of a stretch..

I think the "doesn't command his box" thing started when he really blew it in the first match against Cardiff for their opener (I think that's the correct match to be recalling).

In general though he is so good at that, so sure handed and his footwork makes his claims look so easy because he almost never has to stretch to get any but the most dangerous balls in.
