He is Dave Edwards.

He definitely goes missing. He did nothing last night apart from miss 2 guaranteed goals.
Sorry, by missing I mean he hasn’t played a game yet where he hasn’t been involved in some way, shape or form. Poorly worded by me

Albeit being missed chances a lot of the time. If this carries on till end of season I’d be more concerned than I am now

He should have scored at least one of them, but it feels like we're talking as if he put them miles wide. Other players would be getting the "ooo, unlucky" treatment in the same spots.

Not game after game they wouldn't. He's scored 1 from I'm guessing 10 good chances by now. Pundits would give it the I'll worry when he's not getting in those positions line if you want to be positive

1 goal from.an xG of 1.9 according to fbref
Always abit of a bleugh stat for me. Based on XG we should’ve lost last night. Majority of people would say we were the better team, especially first half people were saying we should be more than 1 up.

Our xG was under 1 for the 90

There was absolutely nothing unlucky about it, whatsoever.

He could take that opportunity another one hundred times, and I’m pretty sure the outcome would be absolutely identical with all of them.

Yep, west ham beat us on xG. Largely, anything above 0.35 xG is generally considered a very scorable opportunity to the eye but xG suggests such chances are missed more often than not.

xG is just a mathematical stat though, and should never be used in isolation

Watched a large chunk of the game back. For that second chance, he literally has to put it a yard to the left and it goes in, or a yard to the right and JSL has a tap in - he literally finds the ONLY place where we don't score. And in his short time here, he does seem to have a regular habit of doing that one thing which doesn't result in a goal. A slightly concerning trend.

I will say that it's difficult to not like him, though. He's so willing and such a trier. How many times have we wanted players with the correct attitude to play for the shirt? He certainly does that - but he's just lacking in some obvious technical qualities.

He'll almost certainly drop out of the 11 when Cunha is back cos you're not dropping Andre, Joao Gomes or even Bellegarde at the moment.

He's a useful squad player who's done his bit in Cunha's absence to help us to a 7/9 point haul. At least he's actually earning his wages rather than sitting on his arse watching Doc, like Djiga is.

He'll drop out sooner or later, but I don't think he offers that much less than Sarabia, Guedes and Hwang have most of the time, and at least he's not a mardy cunt or made of glass either.

He seems like a lovely bloke. I like his attitude, and love his endeavour. He’s certainly contributed to the mentality shift in the team and that needs to be priced in - it’s a good management call.

He’s not good ‘enough’ though, even discounting for those characteristics, and is unlikely to develop as the building blocks just aren’t there. In practice rather than intent he does go missing for huge chunks of the game. It’s OK that he’s not the kind of player who can hit long passes, but it’s not OK that by definition he’s therefore one of the limited number of players that will be on the receiving end of one. His scoring record is unlikely to change over a long run of games because his technique is poor and there’s only so many times you can bounce one in.

Good move by the manager for bringing him in and getting the most out of him. Excellent management really. Along with plenty of others though, getting the most out of them is a tremendous achievement, but isn’t a platform for progression up the table. We need some better players or we’ll be found out again.

If you want to delve deeper the issue is 18m is a lot of money for what you’ve described IMO. But it’s still early days, and I’m not righting him off just yet, JRB as a reference point

18m what?

Cos if you mean £ then he cost 16.

Djiga cost us £10m and never a word about that

I’ve had a word about it. Turns out lots of people are perfectly happy with an emergency buy to drop in and add value immediately but actually needs six months followed by a preseason.
