Transfer Speculation Thread 2014/15

Dicko may or may not be replaceable by any of the names mentioned above (Tom Bradshaw though? Really?) but he's one of our star players, we need to bring in people who are going to compliment his game or offer something different when Dicko isn't playing well. We need to go about replacing the obvious weak links in the team first before we talk about upgrading on one of the strongest.

Ken obviously thinks a bigger target man is a decent way to change things up with a sub judging by our interest in Wood, Sagbo, Graham etc so that's one option. Once we've signed a player like that we may go for another player similar to Dicko if the budget still allows it.

A much greater priority is an attacking midfielder who can link up play between McDonald/Evans/Price and our front three, allow us to press teams high up the pitch the way Edwards does and chip in with a few goals as well. Think we'd have to spend big to get a player like that though, or else look for one abroad. Jelle Vossen has come in at Boro to do that job and completely changed their team, someone like him would be perfect.

Vas Te could fill Sako's role too. Quality forward if we could get him.

I agree with TT too, a quality #10 is a must this window along with a versatile striker like the one's mentioned.
Tom Ince in the number ten role would enable far more variety in the single striker role.

We could maybe sign that Michael Jacobs fella, he had a good season last year and chipped in with a few goals........

Jackett has stated that he will not be extending Danny Graham's loan spell.

No surprise. We tried 4-4-2, Ken clearly doesn't want to play like that if he doesn't have to and he decided fairly early on that Graham couldn't play on his own up top with our supporting cast.

What kind of fee?

Can't see him costing much. Signed by West Ham for an undisclosed fee three years ago and has only made 51 League appearances for them. He is well down the pecking order and would probably jump at the chance of regular football

Barnsley only had him on a short term deal so they got him for a knock down fee, £300k or so. They bought him for the same purpose that we theoretically bought Leon for, doing well at that level which was one they never had designs on staying in for any longer than necessary. He did that job much better for them than Leon did for us, scored some very important goals. He was never bought to play in the PL much as we never bought Leon to play in the Champ.

I'm not sure about Vaz Te. He's 28 and has only played just over 150 games (scoring 30, most of them in one season for Barnsley/WHU).

I don't see us looking at Wood again. We have made our mind up on what kind of striker we need, hence Graham being sent back. He is not that player.

Fundamentally disagree with this. You don't put all your eggs in 1 basket & build around 1 player.
Although he gets a hell of a lot of plaudits at Man City, they have shown they can score goals in his absence. Ditto with Kompany missing a third of a season each year - there are other available players. In addition, the team/squad has to be able to adapt against the opposition. The fact we had little/no answer v Derby was not down to us missing 1 single player.

A criticism aimed at Jackett at the mo, is he struggles with having a plan B. If we constantly sign personnel around plan A, what happens when others figure out how to beat it?

Dicko may excel in his current role, but I don't recall any great clamour to sign him permanently when he was on loan. He needs to develop his game too.
