Tottenham 2-0 Wolves: Verdict, 16/05/21

Terrible performance bar Coady.

Lacking any tempo, spark or work rate.

Moutinho's legs look gone for the first time to me. MGW can't play wide, Silva can't play up front on his own and we are too passive in first halves.

I'm frustrated with this team and Nuno.
I can only add that his staunch favouring of players like Patricio also hamstrings us. A world class save after a Sunday parks flap and then average handling for their second. He got away with a couple of spills too. Roll on next Monday for me and we can hope for more positivity in our play next year with some additions. Today we were lucky to score nil and luckier to only concede two

Very second best had some good chances tho, agree on Adana, Coady and MGW are best 3 players.
But we look so porous with 4 at the back, partly down to personnel and also down to philosophy.
As Neville said in comms we don’t press enough to make 4 at the back work.
Major change will be needed to make this work, it wasn’t terrible stuff but we look exactly what we’re a mid to bottom half side on the beach.

I'd rather that, than have us learn nothing by playing 7-2-1. It was a 'men against boys' line up, and the result and the performance matched it - but he will (or should) have learned more about the players and the system, so no complaints on that.

No point in going through the recruitment changes that are needed, we all know what they are.

We absolutely need to be more aggressive without the ball in that system though. I felt the front 4 tried to press better but it's pointless if it's not backed up; we were bit 'between two stalls' really, but that's the whole point of using these games to blood in a new system. Make the mistakes while it doesn't matter, and figure out who fits.

Spurs played very well, which didn't help.
Spurs do have a wealth of talent. Nothing went well for us today. Defended corners better though.

In which case we have found out the kids aren't alright as if they were speaking their claim that was a terrible effort.
I agree Johnny.

Of the kids, Aït-Nouri looks like he has the most potential to me, although he's still a way off. Vitinha close in the right system.

MGW could be useful as a squad player, Kilman I don't think is anywhere near good enough, Silva I'd be sending on loan to someone like Famalicão as he's clearly nowhere near ready and Hoever I'm not impressed with at all. Haven't seen enough of Otasowie to make a judgement.

That's too many in a relatively small squad to be having major questions over.

If we hadn't had Raúl, Jonny, Boly, Podence, Neto etc out for extended periods then maybe we would've gotten away with it. But we have had them out and we haven't gotten away with it.

Coady, Saïss, Dendoncker, Adama et al have really been shown up for their weaknesses and inconsistencies as well.

Putting all that down, and considering the change in formation as well, I do worry for us going into this transfer window. We've given ourselves a lot to do, could lose a few key players again and there seems to be a lack of clarity at the top as to what our vision is going forward.

I’m ok with that, but finishing with a midfield 3 of Neves, Moutinho and Donk doesn’t fit with that narrative.
It’s a fair comment and I can only think it was a bit of damage limitation, which would take a bit of gloss of a ‘meh’ 2-0 defeat away to Spurs rather than a 3 or 4 nil cuz we played the kids.
It was a nothing game, with a nothing result against a nothing team team really. Both goals were avoidable but we never really laid a glove on them and result was about right
We amazingly got to 45 points with a depleted team and too many passive performances, so I hope that Nuno will have learnt from today a bit more about the young players, the board back him and the recruitment team do their job in the close season.....can’t take this team into 2021/22

They have world class forward at there fingertips.

Kane, Son, Bale, would walk into any team in world football.

On his Day Dele is also a fucking good player

An experienced GK arguing with the ref when the ball is still in play! Spurs would have scored but for an alert Coady. Unforgivable. He made a couple of decent saves but was also awful on about 3 occasions.

That's a fair assessment Del. Although I would say the 'effort' on show was woeful.

And to think people were comparing or recruitment to Leicester's earlier. Embarrassing stuff.

Kane, Bale & Dele were very good today.

Really getting fucking tedious.

"FFS Nuno Play the Kids"

Nuno Plays the Kids

"FFS Nuno this is shit"

Pleased to see so many youngsters out there.

Thought MGW was good
Vithina did ok
Silva Lead the line ok
Mouthino was good.
Coady was good
Rui did ok some good saves on fucking nightmare flap.
Adama looks close to how he was last season
Semedo played very well against Bale.

I dont think it was that bad a performance, just a few mistakes from a young team which to be honest you expect.
Hoever played ok, just made one mistake very similar to the one Beckham made for England when 1 up against Brazil. Instead of making sure it went out he tried to let it go.
Saiss was alright in a back 4

I was fairly happy with it all.
Could have scored a couple just never really looked like scoring.
I agree with most of that. I just hate seeing us lose!

I thought Bale looked shot, bar one cross a makeshift LB and LF had him in their pocket.

I had to be out today but caught bits on the radio. They said Hoever barely got anything right all afternoon, how did he actually play?

Did anybody else feel tge Neves/MGW sub seemed more to keep the score down than try however unlikely to get back into it.

One mistake which led to a goal. Didn’t really do anything else of note whether -‘ve or +’ve

He was rubbish again. All over the place for the 2nd goal.
