Things that make you SAD thread.

Yeah, I just don't want to show myself up. What you can do is surprise yourself I suppose, if you'd asked me at 9am this morning to speak German down the phone to someone I'd have said no, I can't do it.
This is (the 2nd sentence especially) fantastic to hear! Appreciate it would have been difficult for you as mentioned, but great you positively surprised yourself, and fingers crossed you positively surprise others too. The opportunity will come

How would you do you think if they randomly phoned you and went straight into German, would you kick straight into it, or have to think about it before answering.
Just curious as I’m someone with no real language skills but managed to eventually muddle through in Welsh while driving buses out there
I don't really need to think about it as such, obviously my vocabulary isn't what it is in English but I can switch fairly easily between languages (when I want to)

Judge for yourself how "German" it sounds, I've listened to it back 100 times now and I can't make my own mind up

Sounds pretty German to me, no real pauses other than you would expect from someone talking to a machine about themselves.

Nailed it pal!

I do an excellent 80s sitcom style camp Nazi but I'm not sure that's what they were after.

Sounds fine to me, my German consists of basically achtung spitfire, and for you Tommy the war is over

Sounds a bit like mine which was gleaned from 'Commando' comics of the 60s and so consists of "hande hoch'' and "Gott und Himmel"
"schweinhund", "kamerad", "jawohl mein oberst", "aaargh" (when shot), "schnell" and "sieg heil".

My youngest was at Frankfurt airport and his omnipod he wears for his type one diabetes triggered to security alarm, the guards weren’t sure what it was and after a broken English conversation on of them actually said, ‘papers please’.

Awful. But I don’t tend to hear positive things about nurseries despite charging a small fortune.

Only one person needs a first aid certificate and every 3 years? How has that been allowed to happen?

Could be on any one of a number of threads this but the fentanyl crisis, referring to Vancouver particularly.

Just heartbreaking to see and the scale of the problem is truly astonishing. Don’t want to get too politically drawn but BC has recently decriminalised the use of hard drugs and the good intentions of that are playing out in remarkable fashion.

With no fear of arrest the activity is out in the open with the downtown Eastside like something from an apocalyptic movie with literally hundreds of zombie-like figures on the streets every day. The huge queues at the dispensary rooms for fentanyl also give credence to the arguments that state is simply providing the drugs for free and people are pouring in to make use of the free-supply and free-from-prosecution facility.

In a round about way you do feel relative safe from robbery as there is ultimately no need to steal to fund habits. It’s a strange feeling walking around comforted by that.

Typically views are very polarised and I’m not suggesting this should be pushed back indoors, but there’s a lot of anger at the manifestation of the policies of the very liberal Vancouver left. I think there’s mileage in that but the alternatives aren’t exactly working elsewhere either.

Scary to think this could become the norm and coming to a city near you. Doesn’t seem to be an answer right or left and you do wonder how it could all have gone so wrong.

Eastside was always bad, even 20yrs ago. Crazy the difference when you cross the street from Gastown onto Hastings... that was an eye opener for me and my family the first time we did that whilst exploring our new hometown.
I saw a lady in a doorway with a needle in her arm mid afternoon, no fucks given.

Incidentally, Dublin has also proposed safe-injecting facilities in our inner city for the same reasons you listed.
We already have the zombies wandering around near the river and even in a church ground near the city hall. They want to open a clinic near there to stop the daylight drug taking and ODs and the crime that comes with it.
Lots of people on both sides of the fence when it comes to popular opinion.
I think we should look at how it's going in Vancouver first before implementing it here.

Well the policy is rapidly turning Vancouver into a shithole, it’s noticeable how much worse it is even from last year. I think anyone following what’s going on would be very wary of implementing anything similar. Interesting reading about the backlash and proposals to remove the decriminalisation in public spaces:

I don’t know what the answers are, I’m not sure anyone does. I like the thought that innocent people going about their business are less likely to be victims of crime but that’s about it. Statistics might show otherwise but looking at the numbers on the streets and the state of the place it doesn’t look much like the users are benefiting much either.

2 kids dead and 9 injured at am attack in Southport. Social media drowning in speculation that it's a recent migrant that was on a watch list. I know it shouldn't matter but I hope to fuck it's a white British bloke.

Horrendous act, personally I dont care what the background of the killer is. Gives me horrible thoughts about what should happen to him.
Can't imagine what the families are going through.

2 adults critical after trying, it seems according to police chief, to fight off the attacker and protect the kids.
This just gets more horrendous by the hour.
