Things that make you SAD thread.

Agree with @Kenny that a bcc template email would be a respectful thing to do. People put a lot of effort into job searching, applications & cvs, as well as prep for interviews. Appreciate how demoralising it can feel. Easier said than done, but you have to keep repeating the process.

Been made redundant by my 2 previous employers, both under dodgy circs & both ended up paying me off. Last time I went crazy applying for posts. The job I got took 3 months from closing date to interview stage. In that time I applied for & was interviewed for jobs I could do stood on my head & had a lot of what you're experiencing.

Like TT I'm nearly 50. I'm now feeling I hope I can stay where I am for the security. Suspect I'd struggle to get re-employed despite a good history.

Good luck @Deutsch Wolf & be as resilient as you can.

I was recently involved in recruitment at the council, we had 10 posts to fill and shortlisted 36. With a couple of drop-outs and no-shows we ended up interviewing 30 people over 3 weeks and managed to fill our 10 posts but we did notify everyone regardless of the outcome. We were originally set to phone everyone until I suggested a standard template email would do the job, offering feedback if requested, far less time consuming too.

Did like phoning the successful candidates though and telling them good news!

Thanks for the responses guys, I know it's a numbers game to an extent but hard not to let it get you down and with no feedback, you're completely blind as to whether you're doing something wrong with your applications.

Trying not to fall into the trap of just applying for anything as I have to be very careful with my condition, take the wrong job that doesn't suit me and I could end up in a very dangerous place.

Ideally while I'm doing this my order book fills back up and then I don't have to worry about it.

Something to think about, and I know it’s a pain in the backside, but it’s worth customising your CV for each job you apply for - not sure if you have a key skills section but adapting these each time to the role you apply for and having them in the first half of the first page helps it get through the initial sort.

I’d second the LinkedIn comment above too - it can be a god awful place at times, but get on there, join a couple of relevant groups and make some insightful comments (you’re great at that) then stick yourself on ‘looking for work’ or whatever it’s called and you’ll be contacted soon enough.

I've got some LinkedIn and CV best practice slides. If you are interested DM me your email and I'll send over

Just seconding Dan’s expertise at insight.

Daughter had worked relentlessly to get in the police force, various tests, interviews and medical. She flew through and was given her number and potential start date. Happy days.

Then they found something in the vetting procedure, she recieved an email saying she was unsuccessful and could appeal.

We went through the close family, son in laws, etc and found nothing so she appealed. She's now recieved a reply saying she has again failed the vetting and due to privacy laws they can not inform her why.

How the fuck can she argue with a system that doesn't give a reason for failure, and how can we find out if either of the 2 son in laws have a record or being investigated for what must be something serious, as both deny everything. Any one else we would have known about.

Daughters devastated.

Vetting also includes social media I believe. Not suggesting that's what it is, but another avenue to consider

It definitely does you have to put down your all your handles for the different social media platforms. Not sure how strict they are when they check them though.

I would think if it's something about you they would tell you so you can appeal. If it's about someone else they probably can't

Might also be worth doing a free Experian report to see if any details are incorrect, might throw up something bogus

It doesn't always mean they have a record, it could also be something financial like CCJ's or anything insolvency related as this could lead to the applicant being vulnerable to blackmail or corruption.

Equally, if your daughter or a family member has shared anything anti police or government or say pro BLM or Palestine on social media it could be enough to scupper it, even if it was posted donkeys years ago.

Thanks for replies, talking to thr daughter who was asked some pretty weird stuff during the process, it's definitely crime related, we're not what id call well off but financially stable, FB, Twitter accounts etc are fine. They asked about another daughters ex who she no longer sees
( he's inside and she was totally open about this from the start, and told it wouldnt be a problem) and my eldest 2 daughters husband/partner and how much involvement she has in their lives.

Suppose I'm just gutted how someone else can end her chances of following her dreams and the effect it may have on her.

Don't know if it would interest her, but my daughter became a paramedic, absolutely no previous medical involvement, and she absolutely loves it.
Apparently they are always looking for new paramedics.
Let me know if she's interested and my daughter can help in anyway.

Got a nibble off a firm doing some AI work with German/English translation...had to send them some audio over. I don't really actually speak German these days, it's all written form and has been for years.

Gave it a go, I'm rusty as all hell but if you don't buy a ticket and all that.

Yeah, I just don't want to show myself up. What you can do is surprise yourself I suppose, if you'd asked me at 9am this morning to speak German down the phone to someone I'd have said no, I can't do it.

I don't know if it is of any interest to you Dan, however my daughter recently joined a site called
Rat race rebellion.
Mainly online work 30+hrs a week at your leisure,
She just started an online job and loves it.
Not sure if it is available in the UK, but worth a look mate..

How would you do you think if they randomly phoned you and went straight into German, would you kick straight into it, or have to think about it before answering.
Just curious as I’m someone with no real language skills but managed to eventually muddle through in Welsh while driving buses out there
