The Video Games Thread II - The Resurrection

I personally don't give a shit. If the games are good, I'll want one.

On a serious note, apparently the kinect is constantly watching you while your xbone is turned on. Am I the only one who thinks this is an invasion of privacy?
This is old news and it's already been confirmed that it doesn't upload any data to Microsoft and you can turn it off if you don't want it on.

just have to say that the new tomb raider is fantastic! A real 'how the hell did it suddenly become two am' type game!

Well of course it is - and probably because it costs significantly more.

Of course this is the big myth. You can buy a good gaming PC for less than £500 and it will last you ten years.
What you also get are top class games that cost £40/£50 on PS3 or Xbox that cost £5 in the Steam sale about 6 months after release.
Which is why I have 30 games on Steam that I haven't yet played yet this year...but my mate has spent £80 on two console games which he finished in a couple of weeks.
Plus of course the games are graphically so much better...

...plus Indie games....plus mods...do I need to continue?

+ Porn and you've sealed the deal

If I had my PC in the same room as my HDTV I would definitely go the Steam route and not bother with consoles. Connect the PC display to the TV, plug in an Xbox controller and off you go. The console experience at a fraction of the price and with better graphics.

Apart from the fact you constantly need to upgrade it to keep up with the games.

Not if you invest wisely.

Unfortunately you then get shafted by poorly optimized ports or inferior engines. The sad truth is that the PC market is still a dying one (albeit not as quickly as once was suspected), and developers are designing games with consoles in mind. The graphical improvements are often marginal and PC games will always be more or less limited to the same standard as the consoles available at the time, even if PC technology has advanced far beyond those capabilities.

Mainly it's because they run smoother and at a better framerate than consoles. Apparently the XB1 is struggling to run anything more than 30fps, which is crap.

Sony have confirmed first party titles price point is $59.99, ie the same as PS3.

I wish that were the case in all situations. Some games, like Rainbow Six: Vegas were ported to PC so poorly that despite being nearly 6 years old they still can't run beyond 15fps on even the newest systems.

As a PC gamer (I've been console-less since 2008), it really does pain me to say that games are simply designed to run on consoles first, and then have to go through translation systems to run on PC. Perhaps that will change this generation with the Xbox One and PS4 both adopting architecture that is very PC-like, but somehow I don't have that much faith in the industry.

Out of curiosity, what's your source on the Xbox One performance? That's very interesting if true.
