Because everyone enjoys beating the English, no matter what sport it is. Especially when it's on their doorstep.
How is that archaic?
Do you disagree with what I said? Have you ever been in France/Germany/Argentina/Australia/Ireland etc when their national team is playing England?
Nope, but I'd have gone lower than Spedding did.
Probably not, but there again he isn't a professional international rugby union player. Your point being?
From your armchair?
I wasn't feigning surprise ffs. The opposite in fact.France are not even trying now, NZ are practically walking over the line now.
Plenty of craic in the house tonight guys, my initial comment was in response to Leeds feigning surprise that people made a big deal of wales beating England.
England dominated world rugby for a long time, and as tournament hosts, many expected them to at least make the Final, so that's why so many people revelled in the fact they went out in the group stages, but my point was not made as a dig at English people, I was stating an honest fact that England are the team that everyone wants to beat, whatever sport it is. They have history with so many nations that it's unavoidable really.
Not necessarily, but it was a dumb retort.Even to an international, when someone of that pace and physicality is charging at you it's difficult to stop them in their tracks...though a RL player would probably do it every time..
I'll still keep supporting Ireland, which I have done since England got knocked out.
I hoped England would get through the group stages, at the expense of Australia though, not at the expense of Wales. I don't understand the mind-set of supporting other teams against Home nations, esp. in rugby union where we have the Lions.
Ah well. Such is life.
I'm the same...Both parents were from Dublin but I was born in Corby. I want all the home nations to do well and have no hatred for any of them...The vitriol from Scottish and Welsh fans bemuses me if I'm honest
