The Rugby Thread

Ireland have been dire so far. In danger of this one being over already.

Great start to the second half for Ireland... 17-20

Argentina get another try and lead 33-20

I think that could be enough for them. Looks like a bad weekend for the Northern Hemisphere.

Ireland doing their best impersonation of France!

Fuck me, just seen the result. Really surprised at this - I kinda expected Ireland to underperform, but not like this.

Eye opener for the NH teams I think.

I don't think Ireland really under-performed that badly. Argentina were very VERY good. Playing in the Rugby Championship has massively improved them.

Only Wales got close. Unless Scotland perform what would be effectively a miracle later.

Possibly, but they are pretty much beaten every time by the NH teams, even recently. You'd have expected anyone of England, Wales or Ireland to beat them on any given day.

Yes - I would agree there. Is it a case of we northern hemisphere types are now underestimating how good they have become?

Ugh, what a shitty afternoon of sport.

I said yesterday that Argentina were our bogey team and so it has proved again. Not in a million years did I expect us to lose by 20 points though. They looked much better than us in the first half and we never recovered from the shock of being down by 17 points in the first 12 mins.

Second half we had a spell where we looked like drawing level, within 3 points for a time, but Argentina looked much fitter and sharper, running the ball wide really exposed us and we didn't have an answer to them when we got forward. Our discipline wasn't great and we missed penalties at crucial times while conceding them at crucial times too.

It shows how much we missed O'Connell and Sexton as we lacked a leader in the second half, despite Heaslip and Fitzgerald trying to build some kind of momentum, there was no-one rallying the troops, we lost focus after they went 33-20 up and it went to shit after that.

Very very disappointing to not reach the semis but fair play to Argentina, they have been a breath of fresh air in this WC and I hope they can go all the way to the Final as they are exciting to watch.
