What a disappointing day, massive let down, I said all along I didnt think we would win the World Cup but I hoped we might break our Quarter Final hoodoo. I dont think the fianl score was a fair reflection of the game I think we were the slightly better side in the middle 40 and thought we would do it when we got back to within 3 pts, we missed a kickable penalty then they went up and scored one and instead of being level and with the momentum and Argentina rocking we were 6 down. I think the effort of getting back into the game caught up with us in the last 20.
I dont think we necessarily underperformed by much but instead ran into a very good unit, they had the speed on us on the wings and they engineered situations to get into those positions to make the most of it. We did miss the injured players more then I thought we would badly missed O'Connell, O'Brien and O'Mahoney's aggression in the rucks, plus after his miss Madigan's flakey side returned, still saying that doubtful we would have won.
The NH is a good way behind the SH, as someone asked, it is a difference in attitude, Argentina have gone from a slightly better version of Italy with a lot of grunt and not much else to an exciting side with great back play,(passing, offloads, mismatches, good angles and serious pace) because after playing in the Championship regularly they had to adapt to survive, grunt and structure would only get you so far, as someone said they play like France did 20 years ago and you compare that with the French approach of the last 10 years to pick the biggest side we can.
