The Rugby Thread

I'd keep him in the squad. I feel you can afford one wild card.

On the bench yes, but he shouldn't be starting. Seems like its barritt & josephs plus two from slade, burgess, burrell and 12trees - for me Burrell has to be in and then i'm really not sure between billy & burgess.

We do lack a bit of explosive battering and tackling without Tuilangi..

Don't get me wrong as he is going to be a hell of a player but if Ireland's and England's paths cross in the WC I would be delighted if I saw Burgess on the England team sheet. He has an awful lot still to learn, looking good in the Premiership is a long way from the WC, and sides/players who have been developing and had one eye on this for at least the last two years. For instance the next level up the H Cup he didn't do a lot in that this year.

Cant see it as Tred says you have plenty of good options there as it is.

These are warm-up games and Lancaster will start with Burgess and Slade and then mix 'n match as the game goes on.

Australia having made the fatal error of beating the All Blacks last week are being made to pay for it now 34-6 with 25 mins left.

See the squad cutting have started and some big names wont be there, Wales have released Mike Phillips, James Hook and Richard Hibbard (surprised by this one) from their squad

Sam Burgess showing his League pedigree. :icon_wink:

League style tackle in a Union setting - didn't need to do it there anyway as not as if he was trying to do a try saving tackle

Slade is looking good, can't see Billy 12 making the squad at this rate.

Precisely. He is learning the game. Dropped a ricket, and has been punished. Much better for England that it occurs now than against Wales or Australia when it really matters.

This reverse psychology to encourage England to pick him and Wales rip him apart...?

Saying that would love to see him going in to tackle Jamie Roberts.

Burgess vs Roberts would register on the Richter scale!!

Not really reverse psychology. England and Wales are both doing the sane thing. The warm ups tell you about the edges of your squad and their capabilities. Nothing about the final first fifteen.

I'd rather it's a stern ticking off rather than fuck with people's careers

Oh certainly. Totally agree. Burgess shouldn't be criticised at all. He will learn.
