The Rugby Thread

Stuart Barnes is fluent in bollocks where England are concerned.

Ben Youngs is out for 4 months with an injured knee so England have called up Richard Wigglesworth into the squad to replace him.

Most of the BBC pundits are thoroughly one-eyed.

Jiffy is fine so long as he isn't commentating on Wales. He's stayed in touch with modern tactics and always adds value. He's also done the same with rugby league. He just gets too excited when Wales are playing and has the propensity to start squeaking.

Keith Wood is okay but shouldn't be allowed to commentate on Ireland. Andy Nichol is just fucking useless regardless.

Moore and Guscott are much less biased than they once were, but then they've got to balance out Inverdale, who could bring a conversation about someone murdering his own wife and children back to England winning the world cup in 2003. The utter cunt.

I liked seeing Sam Warburton and Martin Johnson on there on Saturday - actually talking us through modern tactics. Andy Nichol was an embarrassment sitting next to them.

I thought we played pretty well and gave you a good game. Not too worried about that and your coach is still a fucking disgrace and a cunt.

I was with you until the last part. Can see how he winds people up, but gotta see whether he throw lions caps out to crappy players in 4 years time before deciding about whether he's a fucking disgrace.

Bless

See if he gets the same result against the all blacks in lions tour.

Look - its easy. He got England playing well today, and you beat a decent Welsh side. Deservedly so. But that doesn't make his pre-match comments any better.

Very one eyed Welsh view, the comments coming from the Welsh side were equally poor. Don't really think any of it had an effect on the game.

What comments were those? We laughed off his nonsense.

Anyway, sod it. Good game of quality rugby and the better side won on the day. Well played England.

You must have watched a different game to me then.

I thought the 2nd half was very attritional and Wales were unlucky not to be awarded the TMO try.

England lost their way and just spent their time trying to break through the middle of a very good Welsh defensive line. The creativity disappeared and the game was taken over by defences.

Both sides were missing key players and IMO it showed by a loss of quality.

What Dino said, unbelievable that Wales weren't awarded that try and we could have had no complaints whatsoever if we'd have lost !

As a spectacle I really didn’t enjoy that yesterday as international matches go I thought it was a poor standard. Think England deserved the and still think they would have had Wales been given the try.

Agree it was a good win for Scotland, but what happened to France?

In the first half there was some exciting play from both sides and France scored a couple of superb tries.

The second half started OK then France went into meltdown and lost their focus and just gave away penalty after penalty which Scotland duly dispatched for 3 pts. What a bore.

If the standard of this weekend is taken to Murrayfield for the Scotland v England game on the 24th, then it will be dull and tedious for rugby lover fans of both sides.

I'm hoping Eddie Jones is honest with himself as if it hadn't been for a poor TMO decision and a superb saving tackle by Sam Underhill then England would have lost to an injury ravaged Welsh side, who admittedly played really well. He's supposed to be getting us ready for the World Cup next year but I haven't seen any progress for the last 12 months.

Come on Eddie, pull your finger out and give us a game to remember in Scotland.

Not saying you're wrong about your overall assessment of England, but you can't say we would have lost had the TMO decision gone the other way. They wouldn't have gone back for the penalty so that's three points scrubbed off the total. And no guarantee on the conversion. So possibly just two additional points. And who knows what would have happened from the restart. Would have been an entirely new game.
And if you say that a team would have lost if it hadn't been for a brilliant piece of play by one of the players, well, where do you stop?

I thought England were worth the win - not sparkling, but overall the better team on the day.

The point I was making was in the last sentence of that paragraph, which you have ignored. I didn't say England weren't worth their win, I'm just disappointed at the apparent lack of any progress in their performance towards the World Cup.
