The Rugby Thread

England have got to change tactics today if they want to beat NZ. Last week was too route 1. No attacking flair.

Really good game so far, especially given the conditions. Been a while since I watched an RL game, but this is really good.

England soaked up loads of pressure and then struck with an excellent try

What a great effort... TMO time

2 unconverted tries for NZ pulls it back to 20-14
but thats the final score.

Sheesh... England like to do it the hard way!
Great series win though

Reports that Jonah Lomu has died. :(

Just saddened about this. Forty is no age for the big man. The most devastating winger I have ever seen. Totally changed wing play. Before then, virtually all wingers were nippy Shane Williams types. After Lomu they became massive.

The great line from an Irish player asked what it was like playing Lomu - "it's like tackling a snooker table".

One of my first sporting heroes, absolutely gutted.

I was never a Rugby fan before or after Lomu. I loved to see him play, marauding mountain of a man. RIP.

One of the absolute best ever. How that New Zealand team never won in 1995 is well established, and seen as a great thing for South Africa with everything going on then with Mandela and and so on, but now I feel saddened Jonah never got his winners medal that his talent richly deserved.

In my rugby heroes list Lomu is up there with JPR, Gareth Edwards, Grant Fox, Colin Meads and so on. That is exalted company.

Terrible news about Lomu hard to believe such a giant of a man could die so young. Rugby's first real superstar and nearly didnt make the All Black squad for 95.

Story from the late 90's, Woodward was giving a motivational speech the night before an England/NZ game, he would list the two teams and then say "man for man we are better and absolutly nobody I would swap man for man" at the end of the big emotional speech Will Greenwood put his hand up "Clive we are all with you but on half of behalf of the team I'd think we would swap Austin Healey for Jonah Lomu"

Ireland were his first victims in the 95 WC, they had a Baldrick style cunning plan to stop him!!!
