The Rugby Thread

Well that was crap England. No tries for us. Route 1 only, easily handled by NZ.

Stuart Lancaster has quit (by quit, I mean his bosses said we think you should leave and he agreed)

Not exactly a huge surprise. The Burgess affair was the final nail in the coffin. The next question is will the RFU clear out the other coaches such as Farrell, Rowntree and Catt? I would start again with a completely new staff personally. That whole regime needs to be purged.

I suppose the RFU being the RFU, a foreign coach is out of the question?

I think they might go down the foreign route. Eddie Jones would be an interesting choice.

Really hope we don;t go down the foreign route, its our national team ffs

It hasn't done Wales any harm having a non Welsh head coach

You can add Director of Rugby Rob Andrew to that list who needs to be purged, he has overseen the Johnson and Lancaster eras, WC2011 shenanigans, Burgess affair etc, but seems to be Teflon Man when the shit starts being thrown.

Rumour over the weekend (but could be bollocks) was that Andrew was meeting Wayne Smith.

I just hope it will be the best man for the job that's available, whatever nationality, in all the roles.

It's our national team, it should be the pinnacle of players and coaches within the country. What sort of message does it send to aspiring English coaches? Or successful ones?

I get that we might be more successful, but not everything should come down to success alone.

Josh Lewsey has quit his role with the WRU today. Might mean nothing of course.

I just don't see a better English coach out there at the moment. Maybe Ford at Bath, but that is the limit of it. England have very few good coaches just now.

Woodward would take the job back, no doubt. We shouldn't go back though.

I would put Jim Mallender and Rob Baxter before Mike Ford, but that's three.

Steve Borthwick has had success as a forwards coach with Japan and Edwards with Wales, could all be used in England.
