The R.I.P. Thread

Damn, sad about Robbie. kick up the eighties, so many great comic strips, cracker etc.

Was watching a few clips of the cracker series with Robert Carlyle. Brilliant actor and brilliant tv.

Was he the last of the original rock and rollers?

Yes, last of an era. His personal life meant he wasn't as revered in the last number of years that his musical status warranted

It was a cultural thing darn sarf in the states back then, I believe.

He remained bewildered about what he’d done wrong – though the fact that Myra had originally been said to be 15 rather than 13 suggests someone, somewhere thought there was a problem.

Plus he probably murdered two of his seven wives...

Ronnie Radford (79).

Scored one of the all time iconic FA Cup goals but had the downside of inflicting John Motson upon us for 40 odd years.

Just watched it for the umpteenth time, still a great goal, especially given the conditions.

What a moment that was.

Those kids running on from the corner flag with such joy with their scarves around their wrists and their canvas Parker’s always resonated with me.

I was that sort of age and going to Molineux with a similar look at that time whilst at school in Stafford. Moved abroad the following year and that was that for a long, long time.

Still find myself enjoying the goal and reactions of the fans in equal measures.

RIP Ronnie.

Sounds like we’re a similar age. Which school were you at in Stafford?

I was at St Johns, my sister is older so would’ve been at the ‘big’ school but I don’t recall the name of that one. St Johns seemed old, and scary at the time, very sort of ‘Churchy’, not like the images on Google Earth now so it’s either gone or I’m getting my memories very mixed up. Either way, don’t recall the school itself with particular fondness but the ’footy in the playground with your mates and talking about the match on Saturday’ part was just great.

My old man was in the RAF and stationed at Cosford hence being born in Stafford. Despite being a Jock (Kilmarnock supporter) he loved football and took me to Wolves as soon as I could walk. You then start going with him but standing with your mates from school and away you go. Many of us been that route I’m sure.

Moved abroad at 10 just before the ‘74 league cup final and was never lived close since. Was quite nomadic for a long time but you have you club for life and it’s never wavered. Proud that my lad who’s Cambridge born and bred is loyal Wolves and never contemplated otherwise.

Sorry if that’s a bit rambly, but hopefully makes some sense of the connection and why the local fans perspective on here is very much appreciated.
