The Official FIFA World Cup 2022 Megathread

So if your team plays at 1pm local time then I guess you shuffle off to your shipping container afterwards and simply wait in silence for several hours for it to get dark/cool enough to sleep. Excellent.
:LOL::LOL:

Ever thought about becoming a travel agent?

it's becoming farcical in many ways, because so many goalposts have been moved.
Fully expect the stadiums to be filled, by hook or by crook, but so much around this WC is inexcusable. Phillip Lahm did a great article the other day on it.

Did anyone see the hilarious welcome of the England team. A load of Qatari's who'd been paid to sing England songs which I'd never heard before in my life. It's really amused me because of how daft it is.

We need a 😬 reaction emoji.

@lemonjelly nailed it, it's farcical in the extreme.

When this finishes, will not be surprised, if it is considered to be by far the worst world cup in memory.

The matches are going to have to be fucking amazing to save it.

I think when looking back the only thing you base it on is the matches. If there are good quality games then it will be viewed back on fondly by the many.

Joe Lycett is a massive twat as well, tbf.

But no, I don't know why someone who is already rich beyond comprehension would work for or promote this tournament. Gary Neville is working out there too, just why, pretty sure Sky pay you well enough beyond what you earn independently (and Manchester United paid you for 25 years, I assume fairly well).

Gonna stick up for lycett, he does a lot in the community, especially for really small organisations & groups.
One stepdaughter runs a care home & he delivered loads of ppe to them at the start of the pandemic.
When stuff was reopening he organised & compered a lot of shows in small venues, including where Mrs jelly works. He was really nice to all the staff. No airs & graces.

Just popped on to BBC football and I can see that Ghana are currently playing a friendly with Switzerland. Why on earth would countries be risking injuries in meaningless friendlies this close to the actual tournament?

I understand the argument of fitness & to finalise/tweak tactics etc, but surely that can be done on the training field rather than risking more injuries and players sitting out of the tournament? Seems stupid to me.

Japan are playing Canada in a bit too.

Well France lost a player on the training field, probably should have risked a game.

Anybody who’s experienced time in the gulf states will know that things will be very clean and tidy. Organisation will be good, crime will be non existent but it all seems very clinical and false at times.
As said if you’ve got bags of money and staying in a top hotel it will be like a holiday, if you’re like me who doesn’t mind lazing by a pool in the sun no problem.
If you’re staying on a budget then god knows what you can do to keep occupied.

By my maths if you want to eat have a few drinks and have water you’re looking at about £70-80 a day per person that’s before transport, hotels, tickets etc
Absolute minimum you’d want for ten days is about £1,000 per person.
