The Official FIFA World Cup 2022 Megathread

Just popped on to BBC football and I can see that Ghana are currently playing a friendly with Switzerland. Why on earth would countries be risking injuries in meaningless friendlies this close to the actual tournament?

I understand the argument of fitness & to finalise/tweak tactics etc, but surely that can be done on the training field rather than risking more injuries and players sitting out of the tournament? Seems stupid to me.

Japan are playing Canada in a bit too.

Not sure there's any more risk than training. Maybe slightly more from contact injuries but it's not like training sessions are non contact.

Yep, Heskey injured Rio Ferdinand in training ahead of the 2010 World Cup and he missed the (awful) tournament.

Well France lost a player on the training field, probably should have risked a game.
Obviously I posted that assuming most would be sensible enough to understand that injuries can also happen on the training field... 🤦‍♂️

Having games this close to the tournament just seems odd.

Don't think it makes any difference really in terms of risk, hence my comment

For example. Brazil in training.

and Fabinho has also injured Bruno G

Doesn’t really matter when an injury happens. Play a friendly 3 weeks before, tweak your hamstring and you’re not making the opener and lacking fitness for the others

Very nice of my employer to announce those working from home on Monday can have lunch from 12.30 - 3 so we can watch the England game (those in the office will watch it on the TV's there)

Lovely gesture....I was watching it anyway but good to know I can now do it without pretending to be working

no such arragements at my place, however am wfh monday so I'll be working hard, or...

Bar one day 3 weeks ago and another on Friday 2nd December, I have been WFH continuously since March 2020 so may help with the World Cup

I will be driving back from Yorkshire on Monday afternoon though so will probably miss the first England game

We've had a message come out stating anyone watching on an office TV or company device will be breaking the law as we only have license in place for copyright free channels.

I'm wfh on Monday - I've just put an extended lunch break in my calendar - no bother there, I'll make up the hours.

Looks like none of the Wolves lads are getting a run out for Portugal tonight. 80 minutes gone.

Qatari royals now demanding bans on alcohol in stadium's. If it wasn't for the obvious I'd be absolutely revelling how this has blown up on FIFA'S face. Hopefully Budweiser have some exorbitant financial penalty clauses in the contract.

I'm still quite enjoying how much of a farce it's turning into - who'd have thought it, eh?

I hope the action on the pitch is good yet shit continues to unravel off it.

Qatar not giving a fuck, also at same time fucking up Saudi Arabia's 2030 bid.

Mmmm circular lid shaped hole and a lorry tyre track, I don't think we need Inspector Clouseau :)

As someone said earlier on the thread vey Fyre festival vibes about all this. Over promising under delivering.
