The Official FIFA World Cup 2022 Megathread

Maddison doing a bit of a Cashley at Roma

Why has Southgate got one of those tools that lift up sewerage lids?

Have heard that wealthier fans are stopping in Dubai and flying in on the relevant match days.

Mate of mine works in Qatar says it will be bedlam there, he has been told to work from home until after Christmas, that's working from Ireland by the way. Seems to be a mass exodus of expats.

As pointed out there is not 1 single reason for taking it there, no infrastructure, no tradition or scope for development of the game nothing.

They got it as a vanity project by those running Qatar to show if you have enough money you can get and do anything you want.

Since they got it, they have gone back on:
building facilities to have the games in June/July (although anyone with half a brain knew that).
Working conditions for the immigrant labour force building the stadia, no fuck that if they die bad luck.
Inclusively, no fuck that LGBQT community are taking their life in their hands (literally) if they go.
Great fan experiance, no fuck that, stick them in glorified portacabins and they are suddenly not so relaxed about alcohol, not to be advertised in public.

Even Putin tried (successfully) to make the world cup an occasion for the teams and fans, not this crowd, we have the cash, our house our rules, fuck the rest of you.

Like when Sky are showing the 2pm Sunday kick off and put the game into a small box to show the Liverpool team bus arriving at a Stadium.

So Sunday, expect the game to go small because Grealish has just scored in a training session with Harry Maguire in goal
Brilliant! Laughed out loud!

Normally I really look forward to World Cups. First one in my lifetime Wales have qualified for and I am completely ambivalent about the whole fucking thing. Not even sure I will bother watching.
As someone on radio over here pointed out, this could have been Wales equivalent of our Italia 90, a great and memorable occasion for a small country, as it is choice of venue has destroyed that.

Anybody under any illusion of the distance between the grounds a quick look on Google earth will highlight how tightly packed all the locations are.
Absolutely nothing on the west side of the peninsula.
Been to Qatar in the mid 00’s in my RAF days if you’d have said it would hold a World Cup in 20 years back then I’d have laughed.
5.5 hour drive from the Northern most stadium to the most Southern. That's all.

Nothing like 5 and a half hours.

The whole of Qatar is only 100 miles, north to south.

Ridiculous. 5.5 hours is my nearest away match.

Damn Brits with your small islands...

Take Villa out (and to be fair, with traffic or shit trains, that can take any amount of time) and any journey we've got this season is further than you'd have from venue to venue in Qatar. Leicester and Nottingham are further away.

It isn't five and a half hours to Villa unless you walk. Slowly.

They were saying this morning that it costs approx £11.60 for a half litre of beer and they limit you to 4 units too

The shit happening with journos trying to cover the tournament is wild.

Budweiser pay FIFA $112m to have the beer tents. These have all been set up next to the grounds. After complaints from the Qatari royals, these tents have now been moved a considerable distance away. Fucking stupid shite country.

And it's shit beer too.

I'll watch it at home or down the pub where a pint of decent beer costs 1/3 of that, thanks.

Not to mention you won't have to worry about the Lekhwiya smelling alcohol on your breath and conveniently "forgetting" that it is legally being sold just down the street.

Also BeIN Sports are charging extortionate prices to view the games on local TV...so most hotels aren't bothering with it (there are no bars as such).

So if your team plays at 1pm local time then I guess you shuffle off to your shipping container afterwards and simply wait in silence for several hours for it to get dark/cool enough to sleep. Excellent.
