Chelsea (H) Carabao Cup R4: Build Up, Match & Verdict

I think it's a perfect illustration of why good teams play through the press and why poor teams regularly mess it up. We aren't good pressing ourselves or being pressed so yes, I think we should be looking at alternative options. It's starts with Sa's skittishess and unpredictability.

The one closing Lopez is running the wrong way. If the ball goes to Agbadou he has the freedom of the pitch to advance the ball into. Those 3 players are out the game.

Agbadou advances with the ball and we’ve got numerical advantage.
The Chelsea player is running the wrong way because he can see Lopez is shaping to turn to his right rather than ping the ball to his left.
Lopez does what he should have done, the Chelsea player is going that way. It was an effective press from him to be fair. Gave Lopez enough rope and then moved in at pace.

Like i say, it's all hypothetical and whatever might have happened, Lopez in actual real life fact, definitely should not have done that!

I can only completely disagree.

If he bounces out wide first time like Sa tells him (and what anyone would do) then Agabdou has all the time in the world. The Chelsea player pressing Lopez can’t stop, turn and make up that space. “The ball moves faster than the man”. We then have the 2 v 1 on that left sided Chelsea player.

From there would we have done anything? Probably not! But that’s not the argument. We should have had the ball on the half way line with 1/10 execution, certainly not back at Sa’s feet and definitely not in our own net!

I've just seen Delap's second yellow - I was behind it last night - and that's a shocking decision by the ref. One of the clearest straight reds you'll ever see. I can confirm that the ref wasn't in the upper tier of the NB so he doesn't have the same excuse as me for not seeing it and if his defence is that he didn't see it, what was the yellow for then?

He’s an awful keeper, always has been - costs us goal after goal with errors.

“Good shot stopper”. No, he’s fucking not.

All the saves he makes, any other keeper makes.

There is not close to another PL keeper that continually lets the goals in he does.

Apart from Sam Johnstone, unfortunately for us.
Preaching to the choir here my friend, I've never liked him.

Even his 'good' season contained some totally inexplicable shit.

Should never play for us again.

Yep, nothing good about him whatsoever.

Shit as kicking, wank at throwing, awful at punching, no authority on crosses and his defenders never fucking listen to him.

Occasionally saves a one on one when he throws his body in the way and the attacker makes a mess of the finish.

Oh, and his greatest skill is taking “man and ball” when coming off his line and looking completely perplexed as to why the ref gives yet another penalty. Again. For exactly thie same thing.

Crap.

I'm not having any blame attributed to Sa here despite him being wank normally. The pass in was a correct one, any footballer worth there salt knows their surrounding area's and it's a simple ball into Agbadou. There was never any real danger despite the Chelsea midfielder advancing, even Sa shouts and points to Agbadou for the pass. Fer Lopez played his Shakin Stevens card and completely spazzed the pass up. For me Lopez shouldn't play in a Premier League side again a complete clusterfuck of a footballer.

I get it Sa is the number scapegoat at present but this certainty wasn't his fault. And don't come at me to say otherwise or I'll fucking sit on ya.

That is true, the error is simple of FerLo, he dont acussom play on this zone and that force a error, i think its the second error he made in that zone. He is young and need learn.

Sa played the ball out twice early on in the game to players who were under pressure, (we got away with it) it's deliberate. He's done it to Joao Gomes in the past on several occasions.
It's happened too many times to be an accident.
He's a snake.

So you think Sa is deliberately putting team mates under pressure so they give the ball away and more than likely have a shot on target which he then doesn't save?

Regardless of what you think of Sa, I hate it when keepers fuck about tapping it to defenders in a horseshoe and it ends up more often than not with 7 or 8 moves going nowhere and then back to the keeper and if we still have possession, the keeper just lamps it up the field, where it probably should have gone 15 passes ago!
We're not skilled enough to play all that boring tappy tappy shit sideways to try to work an opening. You can feel the pressure escalate every time.
Based on the 2nd half Tolu has to play every game with Larsen and Vitore has to find a way of making it work. He's exciting and fast and here's a rare word for us.... DIRECT!
And isn't it mad that the classy defender (Wolfe) who can hardly get on the pitch scores 2 is now our top scorer and how can you not play him vs Fulham?

Watching Jose Sa warming up, he just seemed clumsy, not focused and disconnected. Don’t get me wrong, that 1st half was appalling from everyone bar Joao Gomes but Sa just wasn’t on it from the moment he walked on the pitch, he starts the nervousness that inevitably ends up giving the ball away in dangerous areas.
A competent premier league goalkeeper would have prevented at least two, maybe three of those goals last night I’m sure, despite the horrendous defending that led up to them.
Felt so sorry for Fer Lopez, a rabbit in the headlights performance Fabio Silva esque, I hope he develops his talent but from that, it won’t be here with this team or coaching staff.
That said, fair play for giving the fans some entertainment in the second half, not sure I was convinced we could turn it around but enjoyed the atmosphere and shithousing of Cucurella, class player but his antics disrupted his own team at times.
Nearly 25k turned up which says a lot about the commitment of the fan base as a whole even if they aren’t regulars, i don’t think anyone around me in the southbank thought it was a turning point in the season, just made the 250 mile drive back a little bit easier.
Love the Wolves, love the city, just wish the owners did.
