The NFL Thread

Can't see Tomlin, it needs to be an offensive HC. Daboll seems like a lazy link, was he a good OC or did Allen make him look one? One for Dire. Could see him there as a mentor type for a younger coach though

Pittsburgh still own Tomlin's contract rights (same as when Payton quit the Saints) so there's no way he coaches next season without Pittsburgh demanding compensation.

Tomlin feels like he’d fit culturally, at least. McDaniel; love the guy but is he a head coach? I don’t know the answer to that, really. Daboll shouldn’t be anywhere near a shortlist for any team, IMV. Coordinator, sure, but his utilization of Dart this season is a total disqualifier for me personally.

If ownership is serious about needing a "new structure", Beane either goes or his role changes. It means more than just changing coaches.
I’m sure I read this morning that Beane has been “promoted”, which seems like a real half-assed way to change the leadership structure. Bit confused by that.

Daboll definitely helped with Allen's early development. I would hate him as head coach though. McDaniel might make the offense great but the culture within the team would go to pieces, he's just not a HC.

It's silly really, but the shivering in the cold on the sideline just looks bad and permeated through the team in Miami. Buffalo is about as bad a fit as you can get.

I'm hearing a bit about Klint Kubiak. OC in Seattle who has Sam Darnold looking like a potential Superbowl champion. Could be a good shout.

It doesn't make him a bad shout, but is there a sport filled with more nepotism than the NFL at coaching level?

It's a tough one for me. It's not not nepotism, but equally there are so few people who get that level of exposure as the children of coaches do. So I can see it being fair-ish more often than in other industries... maybe.

He wants McDaniel if he doesn't get one of the HC roles
Would make sense and probably be an excellent combination. Interesting that the trend seems to be for more defensive head coaches again considering how well Ben Johnson has done this year in contrast to say Aaron Glenn.

I do think I heard that points totals are down on recent seasons though and if you look at the majority of teams who made the divisional round, they tend to built around their defence rather than offence Bears, Bills and 49ers and the Rams aside (although the latter are probably equal on both sides of the ball).

I think I've likely just answered found the reason why considering who the winners of those games were 😁

I’m not convinced that Tennessee is a better org than NYJ. I like Saleh a lot, though.

McDaniel OC’ing for Cam Ward would be the best thing that could happen for Ward’s career IMV.

Good move for the Chargers and Herbert, although if he continues to struggle come playoff time then they might need to rethink their QB choice.

Bills owner not just thrown McDermott under the bus in his press conference, he's reversed back and had another go.

In other Bills news Daboll will either be their new HC or OC at Tennessee

The Bills are going to set some sort of record for trade requests. The locker room seems to have loved McDermott.

They so badly need to improve that offensive line. So many games this year where you may as well have stretchered Herbert off and on the field.

To be fair they had one of the most talked up O-Lines in the league in pre-season with Joe Alt, Rashawn Slater and Mekhi Becton on it.

They all just ended up injured for either all the season in Slater's case and large parts of it for the others.
