The NFL Thread

Can't see Tomlin, it needs to be an offensive HC. Daboll seems like a lazy link, was he a good OC or did Allen make him look one? One for Dire. Could see him there as a mentor type for a younger coach though

Pittsburgh still own Tomlin's contract rights (same as when Payton quit the Saints) so there's no way he coaches next season without Pittsburgh demanding compensation.

Tomlin feels like he’d fit culturally, at least. McDaniel; love the guy but is he a head coach? I don’t know the answer to that, really. Daboll shouldn’t be anywhere near a shortlist for any team, IMV. Coordinator, sure, but his utilization of Dart this season is a total disqualifier for me personally.

If ownership is serious about needing a "new structure", Beane either goes or his role changes. It means more than just changing coaches.
I’m sure I read this morning that Beane has been “promoted”, which seems like a real half-assed way to change the leadership structure. Bit confused by that.

Daboll definitely helped with Allen's early development. I would hate him as head coach though. McDaniel might make the offense great but the culture within the team would go to pieces, he's just not a HC.

It's silly really, but the shivering in the cold on the sideline just looks bad and permeated through the team in Miami. Buffalo is about as bad a fit as you can get.

I'm hearing a bit about Klint Kubiak. OC in Seattle who has Sam Darnold looking like a potential Superbowl champion. Could be a good shout.

It doesn't make him a bad shout, but is there a sport filled with more nepotism than the NFL at coaching level?

It's a tough one for me. It's not not nepotism, but equally there are so few people who get that level of exposure as the children of coaches do. So I can see it being fair-ish more often than in other industries... maybe.
